The Saw Mill Trail (red) has an up or down terrain pending your direction and features a stone tunnel you walk through if you start at the Swinging Bridge and walk up from the Grist Mill trail, there is a stream crossing at the very top of the trail where this main section ended. Beware of rainy conditions because you may NOT be able to cross safely. The trail is a foot traffic only due to being narrow and on the side of the mountain. There are roots, rocks, down trees and boulders to climb over. Tricky trail when wet and muddy. At the top of this section you can turn left and connect to the Sawmill Branch, which will take you to the HILLTOP area. If you cross the stream and go right you connect to the Santee Trail (White), which takes you up to the HILTON area. Show more

The Glen Artney area consist of a few challenging trails when it comes to the terrain. This area is quite hilly with a few big ups or downs. Many of the new re-routed trails are high and dryer. The only flat easy paved trail is the Grist Mill Trail and would be considered as the main connector. It allows you to create many different loops. Along the Soapstone are many small feeder stream crossings. The Vineyard Springs trail run along side of a feeder stream. To connect to the Bull Run loop, at the Santee Branch sign, you must take the un-marked trail on the LEFT. ** Bike Jumper ** Not the trail on the right. The Bike Jumper is a bit overgrown so beware of Ticks. There are two large stream crossings along this loop so beware of heavy rainfall too. Show more
