walked part of the trail. the map shows to go straight but the paths only allowed left or right.

This was my first hike here. It's pretty easy but the trails are mostly very narrow. I can't say it's a pretty hike in the Fall but some of the main trail is along water. I ended up going to the end and had to turn around so okay attention to the map or you add another 1/2 to the total loop. mostly well marked.

This was a lovely afternoon stroll! The trail was very quiet and we hardly saw anyone else. There was a lovely creek that the trail followed for a bit and it was such a nice place to stop and relax. My only complaint is we had to constantly keep our heads down watching for horse manure!

Nice relaxing trail today. Well maintained and well marked. Only saw a few people on the trail. Stopped at the visitor center at 1 pm and saw a reptile demonstration with another family. I’ll definitely visit again in another season.

Well marked fairly easy trail for all. We met just a few other hikers along the way. Patuxent State Park participates in the MD Park Quest Look for boxes along the way especially if you are taking the family.

A calm, moderate tough and shady trail. Dog and kids friendly. Horse trails also available. The meadows with beautiful and colorful wildflowers make this trail awesome.

very nicely maintained trail...several offshoots to the Howling River...be aware of roots waiting to trip the unwary...lol...excellent for a day hike...

Very nice short hike that I would say is more on the easy side than intermediate. Saw a lot of butterflies and a few birds. The area along the water was especially nice.

Lovely hike with my dog. Not overly populated. Very shaded in the forest. Nice access to creek. Excellent hike.

As others have stated, it is a bit muddy at parts. I’d also note its pretty narrow and overgrown at others, too. Those items aside, this is a beautiful hike! Definitely coming back.

Beautiful hike with several small stream crossings. This is definitely more of an easy versus moderate trail. Most of the trail is clearly blazed with white/light blue (it was difficult to tell which color it was at certain points). It was pretty straightforward except for the return trip. As others have mentioned, there is no indication to turn around. You simply have to recognize you're at the end of the trail and turn around. If you want to follow the loop that's shown in this app's map, then you will want to take the Fern Valley Trail on return. This trail will take you to the Hidden Pond Trail, which connects to the Fox Meadow Loop that leads to the parking lot. All in all, a fun hike with lots of nature.

Great trail, all shaded and wide path. Great for walking the dogs.

Beautiful with forest, meadow, and water. Mountain laurel in bloom. Watch out for horses, even on non-horse trail. Really muddy in places with blowdowns from recent (and past?) storms. Dogs loved it!

This is a great little trail. It was pretty easy, muddy in some parts. There is also river access so you can get in and splash around a bit. The nature center is new and the park ranger was really nice.

This was a great hike for us with our little kids. Just be careful if it has rained a lot recently. There is a lot of mud if it has.

Very easy, open trail and relatively flat. Pleasant. A simple loup around a meadow. The other trails here are in the trees and seem more interesting. There is a parking lot.

great spring day. no garbage cans, so be prepared to pack out

Beautiful trail. It was really enjoyable to walk along the river. Nice day. Slightly muddy in one section. Great park for peaceful hiking.

Fairly well marked except near the barn at the north end. Looking forward to heading back during warmer weather and when the foliage is in.

the weather was absolutely gorgeous. there are some sections of the trail closer to the river where you have large muddy patches that require some hopping from dry spot to dry spot, but vast majority was perfect. gorgeous views along the river

Very nice conditions.

Is such a beautiful place, I recommend this if you like natural trails. This place is a dog friendly, horse friendly. The trails might be a little confusing , so I’ll recommend take a picture of the map or take your phone with you in case you get a little lost. Love this place.
