The hike had some nice views but it was really just great for wildlife. We stumbled upon deer, squirrels, multiples species of birds, and plenty of wildflowers with multiple butterfly species and bumblebees. Really lively hike.

Not too moderate really. Easy and short. Very quiet and beautiful. Had peace.

Very nice trail. More bikers than hikers.

Nice trail and a good place for friendly dogs.

Excellent trail!! The footing was great, the trails were well maintained and it was beautiful. We will definitely be taking our horses back again.

Warning -- might be closed for hunting right now. I haven't been there, but the DNR website says it's closed for the 2 week firearm hunting season, which looks to be 11/24/17 through the second weekend of December. http://www.baltimoresun.com/news/maryland/bs-md-deer-hunting-firearms-20171124-story.html

Really fun- definitely on the intermediate side, but well worth it, and a perfect place for people newer to the sport to cut their teeth

Lovely mostly paved trail. Shady, unpaved area not too steep or rocky. Great for beginners like moi.

Nice multi-trail entrances around lake, but lots of poison ivy on edges of walking trail. Low foot traffic off W. old Baltimore entrances, nice.

Been riding Schaeffer Farm for 10 years. One of my favorites. However, it is very popular with a lot of clubs, student riding groups, and summer camps. So expect a fairly high degree of traffic during prime season. Watch out for inexperienced riders back there in some of the blind corners and hills. There are some spots where riders get moving a bit too fast and have trouble avoiding collisions. It's an intermediate trail and some go a little faster than they should in spots with poor visibility.

Great trails. needs some clearing work in parts. hanging brush was a little much. whoop section was awesome

Diverse scenic hike. Woods, water, meadows with trail well maintained and broken up between paved roads and natural trails.

A bit awkward sharing the trail as it seemed like mountain bikers were the main users of the trail, but I don't mind. I loved the change of scenery on this trail. One minute, you're in the woods, next a cropfield, next a river. I don't mind views, but some might not be overly impressed.

This place is like a hidden gem. It's a great outdoor play park for all types of adventure & activities. Great for hikes & walks by a big lake, you can fish, walk with dogs, have a family picnic, a BBQ & enjoy a day outdoors with nature & friends/family.

It's easy to get turned around in terms of which subtrail takes you where in this park (because all trails use the same color). Would love a trail closer to the lake.

I love the trails here! I parked right next to the lake and it's a beautiful landscape! The trail was open with huge tall trees! Lost of space and moderate trail for any level hikers! Can't wait to go back

the trail is beautiful and large enough that you don't run into a lot of people.

Decent hike within reach and without much thought.

Nice easy rolling trails. Quite muddy with snow melt. Trails are clearly marked and well groomed. The exception to this was the perimeter trail around Black Hills Regional Park which was full of briars. I would skip this part and instead head straight down Clarksburg Rd. from the trailhead. The most scenic area of my hike was the White Trail Loop in Seneca Creek State Park. The entire out and back is 15 miles, but the AllTrails app crashed with about a mile to go to the trailhead.

Went with my fiancé and two kids ages 9 and 10. The trail is fairly easy with a few up and down hill. Intensity level is pretty low. The trail looks like it is made specifically for bikes (looks really fun!)and I am planning on going back with my bike.

A good walking experience with connections to many roads.

All in all a good park. Went there yesterday and hiked the Black Hill Trail up and down and the Crystal Rock trail. All in all I hiked about 8 miles. Just wanted to note though that there is NOT an 11.6 mile loop trail like the headline for this park says! I went there wanting to do that and learned from a girl at the visitor center that such a trail didn't exist. I hiked all of the paved trails so I next need to explore the non-paved. As the paved trails largely go around multiple surrounding housing developments I'm thinking that those might be nicer hikes. Stay tuned for a review on those trails. Again as I previously stated, all in all, it is a very nice park though. I recommend visiting it.

Not too shabby. Very clean. Lots of shade. Mostly paved trail near the water. Dogs welcome on leash. It's decent. You're not roughing it here. It's just a pleasant walk.

I am lucky enough to live on the trail on the Waters Landing side so I know the area very well.
Choice of blacktop for very easy walking/cycling and natural trails for varied difficulty hiking/mountain biking/horse riding
Butterflies in the late summer
Great bird watching
Occasional sightings of bear
Plenty of wildlife... deer (night hunting in winter, so adhere to curfew), foxes, beavers, huge turtles, fish....
Trails are kept in great condition. Natural surface trails are not popular (!) so you will usually have the trail to yourself even on a weekend in great weather.

One of the prettiest trails - Hard Rock- is not listed. Turn up the hill beside the bridge crossing Little Seneca Creek on Black Hill Trail and then right at the top (there is a board). Where the path meets Lake Ridge rd turn right and follow the route that is marked Cabin John (Branch) on this app's map. It circuits the maintenance sheds and loops back. Rejoin Cabin John/ Hard Rock Trail via one of two connectors off to the left (marked with boards). Terrain difficulty is moderate. Mostly forest and some meadows (butterfly way station in August).
Other Trails:
Black Hill - Easy blacktop with some boardwalk. Beware, boardwalks and bridges can get very slimy and slippery after rain and are slow to unfreeze in winter. Forest. Water, soda machine and toilets at Visitor Center / Boat Rentals. Very popular so traffic can get heavy.
Cabin Branch/Hamilton Trail combo - Easy natural surface circuit. Mostly forest. Great flower / butterfly meadow near the boat ramp. Short stretch on road to get back to Black Hill trails.
Hoyle's Mill trail. Out and back. Natural surface, easy hiking but somewhat rough and narrow for bikers. Young / conifer forest, meadows and fields. Longish stretch of busy road over bridge on Clarksburg road.
Cool Spring - hilly terrain through forest. Moderate to difficult. Caution required on steep gradients.
Lake View / Turkey Hill / Osprey Loops - hilly, grassy paths through woodlands and fields. Easy to moderate.

Fun but hard mountain bike series of trails. Very well marked with inter winding trails thru out. The orange offshoot to the yellow trails has a series of switch backs which were really tough, but fun. Used but never too crowded. Nice you can ride both directions.

Saturday, July 20, 2013

First part of the yellow trail is a nice walk in the woods. I has fortunate to see a coyote!
