HikingGreat!

A visit to the Sebago Land Reserve at Otter Ponds never disappoints! We passed some hunters and saw another hiker as well as some folks fishing and a horse and rider. Lots of waterfowl sightings as well! Lots of space for social distancing. Check it out for yourself!

HikingGreat!

Not as wooded as past visits due to timber harvesting but delightful nonetheless. Really happy to see the cemetery area cleaned up.

Confusing trailhead, but we just followed a small path and quickly got to VERY well-marked trails. Mostly flat, so my 4yo loved it. Highly recommend!

Hunting season is happening. We arrived at the trail and were told by a handful of hunters that we’d be killed...

Hard to find the start of the trail (walk towards the railroad tracks), but once we were on course the walk was great! Very nice fall walk. Clear trail and not heavily trafficked.

Very windy at the trailhead on the lake with white caps. Otherwise a pretty easy hike as advertised.

Walking

Hiked 8/17/20. Some of this hike is actually a walk on a paved road, but when it turns into the woods near the water it gets pretty cool. It’s an old logging trail also used by horses, but there are 3 old graveyards along the way. At least 2 revolutionary war soldier graves. The lake at the end is worth it- super clear water. We jumped in for a quick dip before going back.

Well.....We definitely thought this would have better views. A lot of road and a whole lot of fence. The water views were not until the very end (which do not get me wrong the lake is gorgeous). If you wanted a walk with views, this is not for you.

Fishing

Fishing along the railroad tracks, didn’t really follow trails. Couple of tiny bass. Lots of painted turtles and frogs to catch! Fun for kids.

Sebago Lake Land Reserve has nearly 15 miles of named trails. Any mapped trails can be your “loop.” Cheers!

Great trail! We parked and hiked the full trail but if you wanted to skip the hike you can park on pond road. Awesome hidden gem with views of mount Washington in the distance!

Not terrible, but not one I would probably do again since I don’t live super close. Lots of different trails and I never really figured out the “loop” just more zig zagging around. Right near the road too which I’m never a fan of. Some elevation changes which made it a good workout. Railroad tracks were kind of fun to take pics on.
