We love this trail for the great variety it offers. Find trailhead from parking lot area of Jordan Pond restaurant - don't walk down to the pond. Look for a series of steps leading down from parking area or the restroom side of Jordan pond house. Spring trail will first descend down to cross the Jordan Stream, then climb up thru the forest to a carriage road. Cross the road - then the real fun begins up rock steps toward the summit. This is toughest part of trail, not recommended for children. You'll then reach a more gradual and long ascent to summit over open, exposed granite with excellent 360 degree views. If you happen to hike after a recent rain, the Deer Brook trail will be absolutely beautiful for the descent - what starts as a small mountain brook running beside and across the trail will become a large cascade before the trail reaches the carriage road above Jordan Pond. They've built a great series of wooden steps and overlook platforms for this area just above the carriage road and stone bridge. Many never see this brook or waterfalls during the summer dry season - but one of the most beautiful trails when the rain causes this brook to rise into large waterfalls. Add the foliage colors and this is among a best forest trail the park offers.
