Hats off to the town of Belfast for developing the rail track. We enjoyed an 8km morning walk while visiting for a couple of days.

Beautiful easy hike or bike along the river. This Rail Trail also connects to a shorter Harbor Walk trail which has excellent views while you walk right through Front Street Shipyard, an active shipyard.

Nice easy and flat.

Very easy level wide trail.

Ride date 8/15/18. Pretty good ride. Great views once you get closer to Bug Light Park. A couple of busy intersections (to be expected) with cross walks and signals. Fairly well marked route. This trail is paved and wide enough for all users of the trail. Some trail maintenance is required as some bushes are overgrown and are in the trail. There is a small detour which is well marked as there is construction. There are a few bumpy spots from tree roots. We will definitely ride this trail again. There are some restaurants and stores along the route. Enjoy.

There is plenty of parking if you start on Pleasant Street/ Railroad Avenue in Springvale.
I walk these trails on a regular basis. There’s a pretty nice network throughout Springvale.

Rode it from Bug Island lighthouse to Rt 1 Scarborough (bout 10 miles),... The greenbelt itself was about 2.5 stars... too many intersections (some very busy) which breaks down your ride... It's also confusing at some points to continue in the path.... The ride gets better after about 3 miles into the path as you approach the landfill/recreation area... Uninterrupted, flat, well paved roads. The greenbelt then connects Rt 1 where shoulders are wide and rode conditions are very good... You can go for miles.... So to recap... First 3 miles or so ok, the rest awesome

this is an easy walk, very level. I don't consider it hiking. we are so fortunate to have these trails in our home town.

it is more of a walk and is close to home .Deering pond is nice at sunset.

Nice path, paved all the way. Takes you through neighborhoods and nice nature stretches. A bit stop and go at times with crosswalks, but traffic in South Portland seems to be very cognisant and ready to stop. Great ride.

Beautiful hike. Easy For all! Would do again but bring our bikes next time as well.

short walk but pretty

Dusty, dry trail - might be a good ATV trail but it is not meant for walking.

Nice viewz

Is there parking for this trail anywhere? The location AllTrails sends you to is a gate located on a fairly busy road, and there is no parking there. Every place where I could find access (since the trail crosses several streets) had no place to park. We actually never got to walk the trail.

Amazing trail will be doing it again!!!

love the rail trail

We walked this trail on a beautiful fall day. The trail was very flat and easy but parking was very limited at trail head. Trail is shared with motor bikes and ATVs

Easy flat trail, rocky surface wear good shoes. Wide pathway with scenic stop by Deering Pond.. many off shoot path trails to investigate. Bring own trash/ dog poop bags no trash bins available . Short walk from Hanson ridge to Deering Pond, can walk in kayaks.

Road from Wainwright Park to Bug Light. Very flat/easy ride, but some very busy road crossings and questionable neighborhoods. Definitely classified as city riding for the most part. One major road crossing is confusing, three separate crossings to get back on the trail, Rt 77/Broadway. Bug Light Park is nice, but wouldn't do this section again.

Very easy walk for most. If you have a good eye there are even a few small paths off of this one but they’re not marked or maintained.

Beautiful city walk rail trail, pea gravel base. The two trail heads are near the City Point train station and at the foot of Pierce St at the end of the foot bridge. Or you can park at the midway point at Upper Bridge and go either way.

Should be noted that you share this excellent rail-to-trail experience with numerous motorized vehicles, ATVs and snowmobiles. The "elevation gain" of 2690' is misleading, as it was a railroad and is mostly flat. Maybe all the hills on the whole trail add up to that number.

This is a railroad bed converted to a dirt road. Easy to travel on by many forms of transportation.

It's a cute 2 mile walk along a paved path parallel to the railroad tracks that leads to Hollowell.

Cycled from Biddeford down the Eastern Trail to the end of Scarborough and found my way to the this trail. Had to use my phones GPS because it was the first time cycling, and was a lot of road riding, got a little sketchy/confusing by MillCreekPark, but finally made it to Bug Light Park!

I have done this trail several times, it is a teally cool trail, it's a multi use rail trail so there is light to moderate ATV traffic but everyone is usually respectful. The trail has some history to it and even has a kiosk along the way with a history lesson and a stone bench! it is worth the ride. There is changing terrain as well, love this trail!
