The climb up started fairly easy and then ended pretty strenuously. I went on a very hot day with a large pack; thankfully I brought a lot of water because there were not a lot of options for filtering water and the heat and hike made it a necessity. The turnoff for the Grafton Notch was not inherently obvious, nor was part of the loop, so I did it as an out and back.

I didn't find this trail very difficult but there were a lot of sags (low points) between the high points so that you would gain elevation only to lose it in the next sag. This added to the difficulty but overall not super strenuous and very little steep sections except the Eyebrow. We did the Eyebrow up and came down the Old Speck Trail (AT). The Eyebrow was steep but had cables and iron rungs to help with the climb. Still the trail was wet and made for a little slow going. The view from the top of the Eyebrow was beautiful looking down into Grafton Notch and up to the summit of Old Speck. The Old Speck Trail above the Eyebrow was a series of reasonably graded climbs interspersed with the descents into the sags. But made it to the summit in a total of just under 3.5 hours, delayed slightly by the wet trail on the Eyebrow. The summit is mostly devoid of any views

Awesome trail with spectacular views. Lovely woods walk to start, crossing many small streams, do not take the left hand trail at the start! The trail very wet and muddy. Up on the ridge most of the walking planks are in disrepair. We saw quite a lot of rime all the trees at the top. Overall beautiful hike, best in DRY conditions.

Crazy beautiful hike! Although, we did not expect there to be snow. Some parts of the trail near the top were very icy. Dress warm!!

Trail is definitely difficult, especially the last 1000’ of elevation. Hiked in October and trail was difficult to follow up (scrambled trying to find markings the first half hour in) with recent leaf fall/overgrown trail in addition to not the best marking. Much better marked coming down the trail than going up. Views atop are spectacular. Muddy/slippery coming down.

We did this as a family of 6 today, my husband and I, our two kids (6 and 4 yr olds), and my in-laws. My kids are very active but we’re able to complete the entire hike with only minor assistance! It was awesome. The summit offered a clear amazing view.

Great little trail. We stopped and cooked lunch with our family here. Great picnic spots. Crowded since it was such easy access. Three outhouses;one was extremely unkempt.

In the woods nearly the whole trip. View from Sunday River White Cap was phenomenal! Trail poorly marked. Super very unfriendly trail abutters across from western loop trailhead... campsites were clean not busy. Water abundantly available in October.

A well marked trail with a good scramble up. Would be nice views if clear. Nice fall foliage, but was misty today.

Overall well marked with excellent scenic views. Lots of rock face near top and would be treacherous if wet. Very lightly traveled! Fall Foliage 360! Heavenly

Tough hike! The autumn views from the fire tower were worth every step!

Beautiful views above treeline, steep climb and more difficult after the campsite. Worth it for the views!

I only made it to the sharp turn and had a hard time finding the trail! So I turned around! Really windy and cold today 10/5/19! I did have fun for the most part!
