Road is marked Private, but the preserve is open to the public. Park in the parking lot and respect neighbors is what the Nature Conservancy website says.

I'm not sure why this hike is rated as moderate. The paths are so wide and smooth that only the ravine trail even has blazes. There are a few roots and rocks from time to time, but this is an easy stroll through the woods. The scenery along the river is nice and the stands of red pine are beautiful. Definitely a fun little walk anyone could enjoy.

Hike at low tide. The public preserve portion of the trail along the water is well-maintained and interesting. The hike requires good balance on boards over marshy areas and a willingness to bed over and walk without raising your head to go through a 4-foot high tunnel to reach the Glidden Midden. The portion of the trail on private property is much less well maintained. It lacks boards in wet sections, is overgrown in others, and yesterday swarmed with very hungry mosquitoes in low areas!

Beautiful views and a unique layout

My husband and I walked this and so far it was one of our favorites of our vacation in Maine this year. This is a very well kept trail and very well marked (except for the last map at the end of the trail that says you are in a slightly different location than you actually are). So many beautiful vistas and we loved the hike through all of the pines. The breeze was wonderful that day and the dock was a perfect spot for lunch, enjoying the sun and water. If we were to walk the trail again, we would start off going to the left, so we could reach the dock nearer to the end as a nice reward to the hike. Definitely a trail to keep coming back to.

Beautiful, well-marked trails with maps at intersections that show you where you are. Lovely variety of plant life. Great walk if you have kids or dogs.

Great short trail with varied terrain, up and down hills. Provides a decent under an hour work out and is in forest setting, trail marked well. Would do again if in area.

Well groomed and well marked trail with great site seeing and interesting beaches. We saw several horseshoe crabs at the sand beach.

The trail along the water was very good. It is an easy hike with decent views. Your better off turning around at the pipe that goes under the road. The pipe is not tall enough for an adult and is very awkward. After that the other half of the trail is very unkept with thorns and no great views.

My fav, for a quick short hike or a jog by the ocean!

Snuck out for a quick run while the kids and husband napped in the car. It was the first time this trip that I felt like I was really on vacation.

Beautiful trail along the bay... kids loved exploring the beaches. We had fun searching the tidal pools, found so many horseshoe crabs, crabs, hermit crabs, and many other fun things. Will definitely hike this again when we are in the area!

Fun hike very wet this time of year. Some bugs but not bad, use deet spray for ticks out here. A lot of other connecting trails for extra miles especially at the tail end. Trail was also very well marked.

Beautiful easy hike that leads to a private beach. Still a little muddy (beginning of April), but worth it! :) The trails are excellently marked. Will definitely be back in warmer months.

Great trail with scenic views of the water. Trail offers a combination of an easy hike with a few spots that are a little tricky. Very family friendly trail, except parts of the trail are not so easily navigated if you have a stroller.

Hiked this on February 20, 2017. Surprisingly, this trail was very passable despite the 2-3 feet of fresh snow on the ground. Clearly a favorite of cross country skiers, it was simple to navigate and the path was well-marked. There are several side trails that will lead you down to the shoreline and out from under the canopy of the forest. Otherwise, much of this hike is shaded beneath the trees. I would return in summer time to compare.

Nice easy, shady trail that hugs the river beaches for a while. We weren't sure how far you could hike on the shoreline. We walked all the way to the end of the first beach and managed to get back to the road but it was definitely tricky. Stayed on the main trail after that. We took the shorter loop and it took a little over an hour.

Nice easy trail that the whole family can enjoy (any age) nice view of the river with many custom made benches along the way to enjoy many view spots.

Nice forest, pond and sandy estuary beach views - very accessible by Damariscotta-to-Boothbay river road.
