as one reviewer said, best views of penobscot bay. we hiked mt battie the day before and its wayyyy better. the north side of the loop shares a trail to mt frolock, so dont let that throw you off. its also less traveled, so a nice walk

We didn't think the views from Mt. Battie summit could be beat until we did this hike. It was fairly short, and we took the out and back which was said to have a more gradual ascent. No scambling required. The view from the top was spectacular. Photos can't do it justice. As we sat on a rock resting and taking it all in an eagle glided by right in front of us.

NICE TRAIL BY THE RIVER, OVER NIGHT ON TANGLEWOOD CAMP SITE.

Very nice flat loop trail. Very easy to follow the trails, but the intersection markings we're questionable. Also the maps provided we're not easy to follow. Plenty of parking. No great photo ops, but a nice trail to get some miles in.

Buggy!

I really enojoyed this hike. We started from the back and ended at the trailmarker for it. the veiws were stunning, even on a slighlty foggy day, and the hike wasn't very difficult.
bring some snacks, water, and enjoy the views at the top!

Great jaunt through the woods, especially with kids. Many trails to explore!

This should be rated as MODERATE

Technical and steep in spots. Some of our group really struggled.

The views are so worth it and it’s an awesome hike! Not super challenging, but definitely not an EASY..

The views are about as good as it gets in Maine!!

Like Maiden Cliff, another great Camden area hike that isn't difficult and suitable for all experience levels! Beautiful view of the ocean from the top.

Beautiful hike! The only downside is that dogs are not allowed on the Preserve.

An easy little hike up to the summit but unfortunately no longer any views or the beautiful old viewing tower that was once there. The foundation is still there. Go to Coastal Mountains Land Trust site to see a picture of the old viewing tower.

So enchanting! Even though it’s mid-April, it was about 35 degrees, windy, and hailing part of the time and even with that, it was a FANTASTIC trail. I loved that we could keep expanding on the original trail and get more mileage. The river trail was so beautiful. Lots of tree damage from the winter, but it made it even more beautiful. Lovely flat hike!

One of the best views in Maine! The last half mile is a pretty good hike uphill. The snow isn’t packed down in all the areas. Hiked up with my running shoes and spikes - worked fine enough! First part of the trail is as wide as a road and perfect for cross country skiing.

Pretty easy hike, dirt road out to trail is pure ice this time of year

I wish that I could review it. The trails were very poorly marked. We had a wonderful day of walking, but never actually located Zeke's trail.

great views at summit

Best view of Penobscot Bay

Loved it. Great trail, beautiful summit views.

Easy hike. The trail was well marked. The view at the top was amazing. We had packed a lunch and enjoyed that once we reached the summit.

Fantastic reward for a fairly easy and short hike.

Good easy hike. We did not loop, nor lollipop. It was an out and back for us. Felt like 3.5 - 4 miles. Unsure of true distance. Great views. Only thing we didn't love was the double track (triple track, really) for beginning of hike. Once it branches off to single track 1/2 mile from the summit, it felt like a true hike.

My 4-year-old and I did the blue and red trails (about 1.8 miles) and had a great time! It was JUST long enough. The scenic overlook was great for a picnic! Easy terrain, well marked, and not super busy. Only downside is the tiny parking lot. We got there early enough that we didn't have to wait, but there were others that were waiting for a spot when we came off the trail. Otherwise, loved it! Perfect for new hikers and kiddos.

This was great place for beautiful sights of the ocean. I'm not too familiar with the mountains in Maine, but this was a great opportunity. The trail was so fun to explore, especially if you're not from the area. We did not grab a map....so a basic walk turned into the whole loop. By the end, we met just such nice people on the way and headed back down. I would definitely check it out again.

Note that as of 2017 the Google Maps driving instructions are wrong (have been for over a year). The trail head is at the intersection of Youngtown Rd and Rt 173 (Beach Rd), NOT Deantown Rd. as listed by Google.

Used to live fifteen minutes from this trail and used to walk it all the time, just recently visited the area again and wanted to hike this trail. This is a pretty moderate trail with about a third of it on a nice dirt road running through the Camden hills. The view at the top is very panoramic allowing you to see for miles. The front view from the summit has a perfect overlook of most of Penobscot Bay and all the islands (specifically Islesboro) therein. Off to the left you can see most of Camden harbor and the lovely yachts that are out in the harbor, looking right will allow you to see Northport, Belfast and Searsport areas. Highly suggest hiking this trail, you will not be disappointed.
