Hiking

Hikes in the fall when leaves were falling. Trail markers were a little hard to find and not much of a view from the top. Maybe better when leaves are completely off the trees. Not bad otherwise, has some decent incline and feels like a quiet walk in the woods

HikingGreat!

The hike was very nice, just strenuous enough for a new hiker (my hiking partner) to know she did something without being so hard as to discourage her. We’d planned on hiking Pleasant Mountain via Ledges yesterday but when we saw how many vehicles were parked in the lot we changed our minds. By the time we got to Mt. Tom Preserve it was around 4pm, but I always have at least 2 headlamps in my pack so up we went! We saw 2 other hikers, they were getting back to their car as we were changing into hiking shoes. The trail really needs to be marked better. I’m sure that when the leaves are on the trees it’s easy to follow, but with everything 4” deep in leaves the trail itself is almost invisible and there were very few times when you could see the next blaze from the one you were at. Gong up it wasn’t bad but we made it maybe 1/4 mile down before needing headlamps and it was easy to lose the trail in places. We bushwhacked, and thanks to the AllTrails map and my pretty good sense of direction we intersected the trail within a few hundred yards both times. So please, go out and paint more blazes so the next one is visible from the one where you are! Still a very fun hike, I’d definitely do it again if I’m in the area. Hopefully on snowshoes this winter.

Hiking

Hard to follow at times due to the fallen leaves. White marks on the trees are frequent enough to stay on track. Not much for views at the top, but overall a fun little hike.

HikingGreat!

Nice hike with decently marked trails. You might get a little confused at some intersections, but just look for the white blazing on the trees for the path forward. Only saw 2 other hikers the entire time on the trail.

Buggy. But nice. Make a left before the wooden plank bridge and go up the red hill. Not marked well

Great trail. Well marked, but where it intersects with the logging road it is easy to miss an important turn. Nice rewarding hike.

Really nice workout. I would consider it more easy/moderate than easy, but that's just me. I hiked Rumford Whitecap the day before and that is also listed as moderate but it's way more intense in my opinion. A couple of blow over near the summit but you can get around them ready enough.

Great trail, well marked! The mosquitoes are hungry. The view at the top isn't great due to trees being in the way. but still a nice hike. Not many people on the trail either. The pups had fun. I clocked 3.68 miles to the top and back.

This trail is closer to 3 miles out and back than 4. The mosquitoes are just starting to come out. Good run.

Hiking

This is a great little hike! There are about 3 moments where it gets steep but it never gets overbearing. The trail was mapped out very well. The only thing I would be cautious about is in the beginning of the hike, maybe the first 5-10 minutes, there’s a little stream. The rocks at this stream are a little shaky so be careful. The view from the top would be better if the tree line was lower, but there’s a large area in the summit to relax. The parking lot has plenty of space. Overall it’s a very fun hike!

Hiking

The hike was a decent work out. we started around 11 am and we only saw four other groups of hikers on the trail during the whole hike. The trail was clearly marked and steep in some sections. The view at the top was okay. It was obscured by a number of trees. The decent was not too hard on the knees so that was nice.

It was great to be outside. And the trail was easy to follow. There is no real view at the top. But the breeze was nice and it was a good place for a snack or lunch.

ClosedOff trail

We couldn’t find the trailhead. GPS took us down a county road that has been abandoned and turned into this guy’s driveway. I guess we’re lucky he didn’t meet us with a shotgun. We missed the sign that said, “your GPS is wrong”. He said there was an old trail that was all overgrown. He suggested going back down a different way, which we tried. We did pick up another route in, but the brush was so overgrown nothing could get the dirt road except an ATV or dirt bike. Not for Jeeps.

The trail is unmarked most of the way and overgrown. The farmhouses at the beginning are beautiful and the views from the field are nice.

Hiking

It’s a nice easy hike through the woods. At the beginning of the trail are remnants of old rock foundations with some metal bowls, saw blades, pieces of stoves, etc, that have been found there. The trail is leaves and mostly pine spills. Partly shady so it wasn’t too bad on the hot, humid day we went on. Just a slight incline here and there to get to the top. Not really much for views but there will be blueberries everywhere and the dragonflies kept us company so the bugs were very manageable.

It’s a nice little walk in the woods. The view from the top is probably really nice without leaves on the trees. I would try it in the winter if the trail markers weren’t white. Hikes it in late June, and had to jog most of the way to keep the bugs off. If you have bug spray, the top is probably a nice place to eat lunch.

great little hike! my pup loved it! we saw about 8 deer cross the road as we pulled into the trailhead - so majestic! not a steep trail by any means, definitely on the easier side. the view from the summit was pretty obstructed with trees. still enjoyed it! would be wonderful for beginners! we took old mt tom trail but would like to try west ridge trail next time.
