Explore the most popular snowshoeing trails near Freeport with hand-curated trail maps and driving directions as well as detailed reviews and photos from hikers, campers and nature lovers like you.

The trail follows a ridge line between two ravines and appears to be open year round with a plowed parking lot. Great for snowshoeing and cross country skiing.

I liked the hike. I'm not a hiker, I go for the exercise and to take photos. I'm not in shape and was huffing and puffing before I got to the summit. While overall easy, there are lots of roots and stones on the paths. If you have any balance issues I'd suggest sticking to the Hedgehog and Soule Trails. I did get turned around at one point and missed a turn somehow so ended going down the wrong path. With AllTrails map I was able to find my way back easy enough. I enjoyed myself.

Nice little hike. The trails are wide and well groomed. Perfect little place to get some fresh air that’s close to home. Not challenging at all, but pleasant.

Haraseeket is my favorite trail!!

Beautiful shoreline spots to stop at as you hike along. A better-than-aight Park!

Good views of Maquoit Bay!
Do not forget to bring your bug spray!
Hopefully they cut the two trees out of the way of the trail!

Great little hike, diverse terrain, nice views of Casco Bay.

Waterfront views are awesome if you like walking along the rocks on the shore.

Maybe 5 mins from getting off Freeport exit (same road as Transfer station). Limited parking (on the side of the road), but wasn't packed for a Saturday around 3pm. Trails are well groomed and marked. Saw 2 other dogs while hiking (all off leash). There's a few little trails to follow - We went up the summit trail and looped around (about 1.3 miles). At the top of the summit trail there's a bench and map to show what mountains your looking at. Across the street there's some more trails. Sign posted at the very beginning warning to wear orange hunters may be in area. We followed the big loop trail to the back side of the ball park and then turned around. Saw 2 other dogs (off leash). Our total round trip (both sides) was 2.25 Miles!

Super short, but a great view of MT. Washington :) there are also some trails worth hiking across the road..

Great views of Maquoit Bay.!!!

This short and pleasant family-friendly trail leads to the marshy shore of the Cousins River before it meets the Royal River to flow into Casco Bay.

great hike overall. Nice hike in snow as well.

Very short trail. it is a municipal park basically, having said that it is good for families with children, dogs, or those with limited time in my case it was a nice diversion while my wife shopped.
only a very short drive from 'LL Bean.

awesome

Lots of short trails leading to different sites, the view from the summit (if you can call it a summit) was good but the old foundations where the coolest.

I ate dinner on a cliff as the tide was coming in. Beautiful area with dense trees, and views of Freeport Harbor along with wildlife.

great relaxing hike!

We went 5 days after the big storm and the trails had debris but were nearly all cleared for hiking. It was beautiful, particularly the view of the bay!

Peaceful woodsy trail, seemed like a short hike and I'm not sure we found the summit, but maybe we weren't really on the main trail. Also must remember to wear blaze orange in fall and winter months, as there's hunting permitted here.

We have hiked at Hedgehog Mountain a few times over the years but it has been quite some time since our last trip. One nice surprise was a second network of trails across the road from the original Hedgehog Mountain trails. (We did not happen to try these today, as it was getting late as we started but we plan to hike them next time.)

This time, we took the half-mile trail directly to the summit. This trail winds through a beautiful mixed growth forest, with switchbacks gently winding their way to the foot of the hill. From there, you can take a short, mildly steep trail directly to the summit. It really is an easy hike but increases in steepness fairly quickly. There is a nice spot at the top of the hill with a bench and decent look out over the treetops toward nearby Bradbury Mountain.

There is a loop trail that heads down the back of the hill, as well. This route connects to several trails leading and looping back toward the trailhead. We happened to hike the Stone Wall Trail and an out and back on the Foundation Trail on our way back to where we started.

As I said before, there are many options for all abilities at Hedgehog Mountain, including some new ones. I can hardly wait to go back!

So lovely to be able to walk both along the cliffs and inland. The trails were relatively easy and the views of the islands and water were refreshing. Everything is well marked and you can easily extend or shorten a hike to how you are feeling that day.

This trail was our almost 2 year old son's first "official" hike. He pretty much ran close to the entire 2.1 mile Casco Bay trail. No lie, we had to make him sit for a quick snack/water break halfway through, and there were times we had to speed up our pace to keep up. There were several small bridges to cross, some rock installations to guide runoff for melting snow in spring, and lovely scenic view spots with benches to enjoy the view for a bit. We went on the weekend, but the trail felt private most of the time. Only occasionally did we cross paths with other hikers. Wolfe's Neck Woods State Park is perfect for an easy, yet quiet hike, as an alternative to nearby Bradbury Mountain which is always bustling with people. If you want to stay close to home, but still feel like you are almost alone in the woods, this is the place for you!

Good little hike. The summit is only 1/2 from parking area, but there is s good network of trails linked into this area. We hiked for about an hour and didn't have to re trace our path much. Very good signage of trails. Well maintained. Quite and peaceful. We brought Harvey (dog) and Charlie (10 month old son) and both loved it.

I'd prefer this hike over Bradbury most days: much less people, easier to park, no fee. The "view" from hedgehog is less than Bradbury, but the total experience is more peaceful.

Easy hike with minimal elevation increase/decrease, suitable for many skill levels. Breathtaking ocean views. This makes for a quick but lovely adventure!

My Wife and youngest daughter loved it. It is a beautiful spot, but I like a little more elevation.

Beautiful hike. Well maintained park. Dog friendly.

Beautiful park and peaceful hike along multiple trail offshoots. The bits along the water were sublime. We had a dog with us, and he loved every bit of it.
