Nice casual walking trail, several way points with swing benches to soak in the views, and be sure to check out the Fairy Community

Awesome casual walking trail; several swing benches to rest and soak up the views, fishing pier, and several sandy beaches. Be sure to visit the Island Community Village along the way and even build your own all natural house for the fairies (collect items along the walk).

Definitely wear your hiking shoes on this trail. Has a nice little lookout area not that far into the hike. Trail was marked well

I love this trail. Did it with my family yesterday. Will continue doing the veiws are breathtaking.

Peaceful and nicely maintained with lots of wildlife (including a rather surprised broad-winged hawk). Trails are well marked and there are maps at most major intersections but there are a few small connections/offshoots not shown on the map which can get confusing. Frequent intersections with snowmobile trails but those are unmarked and less maintained so it's easy to stay on the correct path. Connection to the Lowell trail system is a huge plus!

Great little, highly accessible trail. Marked down as parking can be a nightmare. Nice for running if it’s not crowded.

Well marked trails right off 88 in Falmouth. Very popular place to walk dogs, watch for blow down trees!

Great trail with excellent views. It is high volume and can be tough at times to find parking. Dog friendly and great spots to stop and take in the beautiful views.

Nice trail along the river. Great for dogs, plenty of spots to get in the water.

easy level terrain, nice for families to walk.

This is a wonderful urban trail system with well-marked trails of green, yellow, red and white markers. Portland Trails has done a great job marking and maintaining the trail (including pointing out what plants are invasive). There are several marked posts containing a number but I have yet to find what these numbers represent. Hopefully, someone will post what they represent. Dogs can run free once they get beyond 300 yards from the parking area.

great trail. well maintained and great views of the bay. grey loons hugging the coastline and divin for fish. great striped bass fishing in season. just an all around great place. Enjoy..

Well maintained trail, even with snow. I was concerned, but it was compacted and I was able to walk merely in hiking boots without any issues.

It's a beautiful spot, a lovely walk. Easy, and accessible by all abilities, but the trail being gravel and dirt, is not wheelchair accessible.

A wonderful place for mountain biking with minimal elevation changes but lots of challenges in the twists and turns. The red trail is more challenging than the other trails. Very well marked and easy to follow.

Great trail for walking dogs, not too hilly, good river views!

Great trek through the woods - nice ups and downs - the trails were marked very well.

I live in Portland so Mackworth is my go-to when I just need some fresh air and trees. It's a quick walk around the loop, but at low tide it's fun to beachcomb around the island too. Beautiful views across Casco Bay.

We've hiked this trail twice - the first time it was early spring and we had to turn back because the parts of the trail that weren't covered in ice were thick with black mud; the second time was mid summer and much more enjoyable, though we still didn't make it more than a mile or so. The first half mile is not so pretty, but once you go under the highway overpass it gets better. There are a couple swimming hole spots along the way. Mosquitos were enormous and plentiful in July!

We discovered Gilsland by happy accident. It's lovely! Little bit of woods, little bit of meadow, little bit of marsh and water views. Perfect to burn some kid energy and view birds, wildflowers, and bugs.

A perfect trail for when you want to go somewhere not too far from downtown Portland. The trail circles the island and there are beautiful views out to the water on every step. There is enough forestry to keep things cool but not too much to detract from the views. A perfectly pleasant afternoon walk.

Beautiful place for a short hike or spend the whole day swimming and picnicking. Bring your bug spray!

Great spot, and easily accessible. Lots of bugs in the first section of the trail, so wear long sleeves.

Easily accessible, the only issue is the parking.

Dog friendly. Not much parking.
