Very confusing, not worth it.

A must if you are hiking the Red River Gorge for the first time. Unbelievable views and good distance if you do the loop.

Three of us hiked in on the Double arch side, descended to the creek between Double arch and Courthouse rock. We found a campsite well off of the trail and stayed 2 nights, making short day hikes as we wanted - In June 2017 (=hot weather) But the creekside campsite was cool enough and the bugs were not bad.....worth it!

Really perfect hike — we did it backwards, starting towards double arch, and it couldn’t have been better.

Definitely one of the most amazing arches in the gorge!

Very scenic. Lots to see if you really look. The low grounds in the summer are nice. The views from the cliffs are beautiful. Not too difficult at all. Trail not marked too well for the walk back from Courthouse Rock.

Unmarked trail for as much as I could tell. You hike down the gravel road a little farther then I would have liked then the actual dirt trail is on the left. It’s not marked so you’d miss it if you’re not using the GPS. The trail down to the look out is great. Very easy. Pretty views from on top of the arch. We struggled to see a way to the bottom of the arch. Followed what looked like a rough trail that is to the left before you walk our on top of the arch. We slid down a small rock face and that put us on the bottom. Well worth it. There could be other ways to the bottom but I didn’t have luck seeing too many. The view of the arch is very beautiful. It was challenging to get down and up from the bottom so just be prepared to go off trail or sliding on your rear a little as it was pretty steal. My very experience dog did fine. I wouldn’t take kids to the bottom or dogs not brave enough to go through the rough and do a little climbing. It is steep. Be careful.

Took Auxier Ridge to Auxier Branch to Double Arch back to trailhead. Very nice with some good little side spurs. Just be careful on the spurs, especially with children. Most of them are cliffs that you better watch what you're doing.

Great trail with lots of fantastic views and varied terrain. Starts along the auxier ridge, goes to courthouse rock (climb up the thru the crack onto the top of the formation if you're daring enough!), descends along Auxier Branch trail following a beautiful stream, climbs back up to Double Arch (one of the best views in the entire gorge), then goes back to the parking lot along the ridge line road (closed to vehicles). ~8 miles, a bit strenuous, but well worth the effort!

Loved this hike. It is one of my favorites in RRG. Highly recommend. There are great views.

Great views, the top look out was a little crowed but bad. Looks like a good place to camp over night, could tell a few people had.

Stop by and climb Courthouse Rock as well and it's a perfect hike. Little bit of everything. Only complaint is it's a popular trail

Awesome hike. Lots of cliff side views. Slightly rugged. Amazing views. Good distance for a longer hike but not take all day. Lots of sights along the way!

Awesome views. I climbed to the top of Courthouse Rock and I'm not sure if I would do it again. You definitely have to trust your coordination to do this climb without rope and harness. The trail is awesome though.

Star Gap is a great arch! It is one of the fab five arches in the gorge. Hiking on the gravel stinks, but once you get to the turn off, this trail is a nice walk in the woods. Getting under the arch is easier if you switchback down a side trail to the left. Look for this side trail a couple hundred feet before the trail goes on top of the arch. Once you go back to the main Star Gap Trail and reach the fork again, continue out to the end of this ridge to reach Pepe's Point, a great overlook. Many camping spots on this trail.

I'd give it better reviews but there is a ton of garbage and old vehicles off the left fork of the trail. I wish the forestry service would get in there and clean it up. Otherwise, even with the other trails packed, we only saw one other person on this trail. A great quick trail to do overall and there are a couple decent spots for doing some backpacking - especially with children.

Fantastic trail. Moderate difficulty. Love the wilderness and pine trails. Trail was well marked but we still got a little lost near the stairs by courthouse rock where auxier trail branches off.

Had a great time despite how my legs feel!

One of my favorite marked trails in The Gorge!

Don't stop only at the Arch. Although one of my favorite arches at the Gorge, there is almost two miles of ridge trail beyond it. Fantastic views. See my recording.

Get a copy of The Hinterlands written by Jerrell Goodpastor. Jerrell describes in detail 100 or so unmarked trails in
Red River Gorge. A must for any lover of the Gorge.

Good trail well worth the price of admission

I bouldered to the top of Courthouse Rock and the view is amazing!! The climb looks scary looking at it from the ground but it is so worth it once you make it to the top! An advanced climb up on top of the rock but the trail to it is fairly easy.

Nice camp spots and great high views.Deff will be back...

Sunday, August 28, 2016

beautiful views from the top. I'd love to go down inside, but without climber's gear or balls of steel, I can't figure out how! there's a Grandview of the whole arch from the back trail in the last camp site before approaching the arch.

great views

Heavy damage with trees down caused some grief. Significant uphill on the return trip. Worked hard to avoid poison ivy next to the trail most of the way. Lots of spider webs from low traffic. Until this trail is cleaned up and more heavily traveled, I do not recommend. If you are so inclined, take this trail out to Courthouse rock, and take Auxier Ridge trail back to avoid the uphill return. Auxier is dynamite, by the way, and my recommendation to see Courthouse Rock.
