Really fun little trail and I would recommend to anyone starting out, just trying to get some trail under their feet. This was the fist trail I ever went solo for and I felt fine the whole time. Lots of places to camp and rest. It can be tricky to know the right path, but you're always going to have the river within 75 yards of you, so its hard to get too lost. You just follow the river, keeping it on your right side.

Great Long hike! Buck Run is pretty tough up and down but the creek is worth it.

This was a nice mix of stream views, epic ascents, and dry, flat plateaus. Many mushrooms and a few snakes.

By far our favorite hike we did in the RRG! Took us about 45 minutes to get to the top of the staircase. Absolutely amazing views. The staircase itself isn't as scary as people say, at least it wasn't for us. There's footholds in the rock that help with getting to the top. Just wear proper footwear & don't be afraid to use your hands for balance & you'll be just fine! We also didn't have any problem finding our way back to the car when we did the loop - the Alltrails map made it easy. Super fun hike!!!

Great trail! I see now why it is one of the most loved in the Gorge. Followed the AllTrails map and the first review for directions without any issues. The staircase isn’t wildly difficult to climb up but I would not recommend it for pets or children (after seeing folks struggling with both today.) It can be a little nerve wracking but take your time and look for an easier way if you feel stuck. I highly suggest going up the staircase and descending on the loop. Trail gets very narrow and a bit overgrown past the staircase but nothing unmanageable, especially since most hikers turn around after reaching the top of the staircase. I was surprised by the number of sheer drop offs alongside the ridge top trail. Watch out for the split at Adena Arch trail unless you want to add an extra mile onto your hike. Overall, really fun hike. All nearby parking was full by 9am on Labor Day weekend, so plan accordingly.

This is definitely a trail for a skilled hiker. It’s really beautiful and fun if you are ready for it! Lots of fun scrambles and walking over streams. Great views and a good place to swim, would NOT recommend dogs who are not excellent trail dogs. Don’t let the distance fool you, it’s a tough 3.1! Lots of amazing campsites along the way though. There is a huge tree down in the beginning. Trail head was busy, had to park down the road but it was LDW!

Only did a portion of the trail - really nice scenic views of the river and enough sandy beach for a picnic lunch (maybe a quarter of a mile from the trail head).

I will say that if you’re following the app details that they’re very inaccurate! We spent about 2 1/2 hrs trying to figure out where the trail head was because the park rangers said they could not give directions to crowded trails due to covid. We followed in from bison way and supposedly there is a tree with a red arrow (we seen it but it was not an official marking) so we continued to follow the white triangles. Long story short, we ended up hiking up backwards instead of going to the base where you climb. I would also like to add that this trail is not dog friendly. I’m not sure who says it is but the climb itself is not fit for a dog unless you plan on attaching them to your back somehow someway.

HikingGreat!

3rd time doing this trail, but first review. Labor Day weekend had the parking on overflow. Not always like this, but I had this issue on a non-holiday weekend a couple years ago as well. If they say "No Parking", don't, because I had a $75 ticket waiting for me after that particular hike in '17. I overheard a few people who were disappointed they came down the staircase. They missed the turnoff and didn't realize their mistake. Don't miss where the way up the staircase splits from the main trail. There's a big red arrow painted on a tree on the right of the trail. Turn there and you'll find it no problem. At the top, there are multiple trails that will bring you to the same point. Just try to stay close to the rim, and you'll make it around to the descent point.
