Unfortunately the lake was very stagnant making the views “Ok”. Did love all the water lily....made it a worthwhile hike. Unfortunately couldn’t do the full loop due to the connecting path being destroyed by storms

Really enjoyed this trail. Especially liked the beaches by the lakes, great place to stop and have a snack while enjoying the views.

Had a good time with my son! Easy and fun! Got 1.5 miles into the hike and got turned around by workers rebuilding the boardwalk! Said it was too dangerous to go any further... I mentioned a sign would have been nice... they said someone tore the signs down and they needed to put more up... I was thinking maybe you could have done that on your way out but I didn’t... they were nice guys! A 2.6 mile hike turned into a 2.9 Hike and had fun...

Nice easy trail with good waterside views. Completed in early May, a couple patches were a bit marshy with moderate mud, but the vast majority of the trail was easily accessible and dry. A fair bit of ticks were encountered so dress appropriately and be sure to check yourself afterwards.

boardwalk currently very rough. torn up by a storm. still possible not very smooth.

Great trail, I logged it as 4.8 miles, not sure about the disparity with AllTrails. Beautiful forest with dogwood and redbud blooms, and of course the serenity of Honker Bay.

Always loved this trail. Been going every summer with my kids for 10 years. One of our favorites.

I use this trail to train for Ultras. The western side has several steep hills with decent views. The eastern half is an easy trail with no challenging hills. Expect to run into bikers.

Trail is well marked and the staff at the welcome center is very nice and helpful. I only completed a small loop on the south end today but, plan on coming back very soon to see the rest of the trail and connecting spurs.
Highly recommend this area for new hikers like myself.

Nice and easy. Bit muddy after the rain but that’s to be expected. Lake views.

Trail is shared with mountain bikers but still a great trail. Trail has a 6 mile section also. Large parking lot at the North welcome station. Welcome station has bathrooms attendants, gifts , etc.

Lovely trail! Super easy stroll. The trail does get a bit muddy but is easily bypassed.

a chance to see different terrain, from lakeside to heavy wooded area. Overall nice trail.

fun trail with great views of the lake.

Nice variety of terrain and views of the lake. Recent storm left a lot of debris on the trails.

Nice little trail. Low end half way around had damage to the boardwalk but was passable during our visit.

If you are looking for a trail with some small hills, and by water- I would recommend this trail! about 5 miles long, good for a walk/run. after a rainy period, be aware that it does flood in some places.

Gorgeous views in the spring and summer. The lotus blooms across the water make the lake so pretty. Watch out for snakes as I have seen some in the area. You can kayak and canoe here as well but you have to reserve your boat at the nature center register on the hill above.

Great trail! Beautiful scenery spring through fall. Lots of wildlife : Wood ducks, mallards, and even a beaver dam. Gorgeous views of the lake. Be on the lookout for snakes though. There is a gorgeous spillway waterfall at the beginning where you can walk across the water on stones. I have taken my 6 yr old several times. First time he was about 4. It's suitable for all ages.

I headed out Sunday morning about 7am. I wanted to hit the trail while it was still froze from the night before. As I got started from the north Welcome Center. Trails were snow covered from the last snow. For the most part the first half of the trail was great not to wet at all. It was a little slippery but not to bad. I ran into three other hikers enjoying breakfast down on the lake, I said hello then moved on. I got to the first road crossing and just before that the bridge was out so a short detour and I was back on the trail. I would soon learn that was to be the norm for the rest of the trail either no bridge or it was tore up and not useable. Followed the canal section and it was nice and dry, gave my feet a chance to dry/warm up. The second half on the Cumberland river side was boring at first then opened up to follow the river. It was nice hiking and saw some interesting things the rest of the hike. The first thing I saw that really interested me was a cemented in slough down to the river. It was quite a ways off the road so makes me think what was it used for and when was it built? The next few things looked to be bunkers or maybe root cellars made of block, again a ways off the road so wondered what they were back in the day. Shortly after those ended up back at the welcome center and packed up and headed home for game night with friends and the wife. I am headed down to the fort Henry Trails next in preparation for the North / South on the first weekend of Feb. See you on the trails!

The Canal Loop Trail in the Land Between the Lakes Recreation Area is well marked and scenic. One can visit two lakes and a canal in a single day's hike. Several connector trails allow hikers to lengthen and shorten as desired. The Kentucky Lake side features hilly terrain, which is easily traversed by anybody who is reasonably fit. It also offers the most impressive scenery. I saw deer, squirrels, geese, and woodpeckers along the trail, while encountered very few people during the chilly Friday afternoon I was there.

Absolutely loved this trail!!! The scenery was awesome and we even saw a deer! Can’t wait to do it again.

It's a pleasant trail but badly in need of maintenance - although the "closed" boardwalk section was easily passable. I would agree with other reviewers that this is an easy trail, not moderate.

Great fast sections and difficult hills on west side
