Love this trail. It's within walking distance of my house. It's lovely in the cooler months, not a lot of traffic during the week.

A nice walk if you cannot get out of the city arena. I enjoyed the lake views and the very clean well kept trail. Surrounded by residents, but that is clear from the map. I went on an October Monday, but I can imagine it gets busy on the weekends and in the summer. Nice option if you love close by.

As some indicated, the trail is longer than pictured in the map on this site. It is over 5 miles if you follow all the markings. There are yellow arrows (clockwise) and red arrows (counterclockwise). The trails are pretty well marked, although some intersections are a little tricky. The trail was in very good shape and very clean. There is limited parking on the side of commerce road. There is a little gravel patch close to the 2nd trailhead which works pretty well for 3 or 4 vehicles. Otherwise park on the grass along commerce road. Parking at the end of commerce road, near the last trailhead is very limited and extremely tight. The trail has some very entertaining spots for mountain biking. I am 58 years old and probably an average mountain biker. There are a good number of technical areas and tight trails running along steep banks. Because of the leaves this time of year, I had to get off my bike 3 or 4 times because I didnt trust traction on steep climbs or drops. If you are using red arrows (counterclockwise) you will need to climb the earth dam. You can go straight up or cut diagonally upward along the dam. I have never done this before. Overall, a fun, entertaining trail for bkiing with some good challenges, open runs, nice views of creeks and small lake. .

Went on a cool, crisp October morning and it was so beautiful walking around the lake. I’ve added pictures for reference. Trail is easy, partly paved, rocks and dirt. Sunny in some areas and shaded in others. It is a great mix! Well marked and no issues at all navigating.

The trail is not marked very well .

Rough (in a good way) at the beginning. Big uphill for maybe 1/4 mile before you hit the loop. Once you hit the loop trail, you should take a left. If you don’t, you’ll have to reclimb everything you just did plus a lot more. Take a left at the loop trail. After a short uphill, trail levels out and goes very downhill (combined about 1.5 miles, this is the part you don’t want to go uphill on if you went right at the trail head). Get ready for your last 1/2 mile of the loop trail to be a tough uphill trek back to the loop trailhead. After that, it’s an easy downhill 2/3 mile back to your car. Just be careful because the trails are covered with leaves and going downhill can cause easy slips and falls. Overall, a decent trail with some VERY tough uphill portions.

I took the shortest route I could find this time. I’ve taken a couple longer routes before. First time I came out here was 4 miles. Next time, 3. Today it was 1.5. So that should tell you the variety of trails you can find at Buffalo Lake. And no trails are too difficult. Mostly they are flat with some minor ups and downs. This would be a great experience for someone who has just started learning to hike or backpack.

Was a tough trail but still able to hike it with a 10 and 9 year old following with backpacks. A few water and food breaks. Fun time.

Easy, fun, relaxing.

Followed the yellow blazes and had a great time. Easy to navigate for the most part thanks to the blazes being arrows that point the direction of the trail at intersections. A couple tricky areas that can get you turned around. Overall a fairly quick trail with lots of places to go fast. A couple areas have extremely steep uphill climbs that come up quick and have very narrow paths.

This trail used to be a great trail. However, they’ve cut several new trails in that aren’t well marked. If you’re not super familiar with the trail or have some kind a GPS there’s a good chance you’re going to get lost. I’ve been on this trail at least 30-40 times and my husband has been on it twice as much and we got lost.

Beautiful trial but unless you are very familiar with the area your relaxing hike soon turns into a land navigation course. There are 4 or 5 different trails that weave in and out making it near impossible to stay on original course with no markers.

Such an beautiful easy trail. I’m visiting my daughter whom moved here to Elizabethtown with her fiancé after graduation from University of Cincinnati. I met Howard on the trail. He’s a stroke survivor and a devoted Christian and a strong, kind human. Lived in E-Town his whole life. Thank you for talking to a mom and telling all about here and the history. Very kind people on the trail and I left inspired from everyone I encountered. Thanks E-Town!!!!! Trail is dog friendly too. ( thank you young couple for allowing me take a pic of your beautiful German Shepherd)

This trail is very well maintained, and the wooded section is beautiful. That being said, it might not suit someone who is looking for solitude/to commune with nature. It is fairly busy and not all of it is in the woods, but it is a great place for an easier run.

It’s a great run, although not well marked at certain parts as to where the official freeman lake trail is. Be prepared for some hills and have good trail running shoes as the gravel can be of the larger variety. When running the loop keep the lake in sight when you come to roads portion as again it’s not well marked at that point. Some of the views are really great especially the one from the top of the dam. Have a great run.

I’ve done this trail a dozen or so times. Half of the trail is wooded and reminds me of a widened nature preserve trail. But the other half of the trail is just through the park... There isn’t really a “trail” there to follow. You just walk through the park and pavilions along the lake. This is one of the easier trails you’ll encounter but that isn’t a bad thing. It’s just not the kind of trail you want to do if you’re looking for an immersive wilderness experience. It’s more of a relaxing Saturday stroll that ends up being about 5 miles.

A slightly above easy trail. However, IT IS MUCH LONGER THAN TWO MILES. That is simply the shortest route around the lake. I took ONE additional trail and it ended up being FOUR miles total. I’d say if I had taken another trail or two on the path, I could have stretched the total out to 5-6+ miles easily.

Great trail with some decent climbs throughout. I thoroughly enjoyed it and will run this trail again. It is worth noting that this trail would be rough to run if it was really muddy but today it was perfect. :)
