Short and sweet.

Beautiful trail! Very short, climbing to the top of half moon rock would be impossible if there is any moisture on the ground. Very difficult if you’re under 5’1” but manageable. Amazing views.

As of January 8, 2019, this trail along with tunnel ridge, Indian creek and rock bridge are all closed until further notice. We came to visit for the weekend and the road was blocked.

Spectacular views. Unmarked trail head but the app takes you right to it. Not dog or kid friendly to get to the top though. A bit of scrambling required.

Pretty easy trail very beautiful

Great short and easy walk. It’s mostly paved. Good lofty views of the surrounding valley and distant rock formations. Our two dogs thoroughly enjoyed the trail too. The washed out section of road (from previous reviews) is no longer an issue. The Forest Service has apparently fixed it. We didn’t encounter one.
We were here between Christmas and New Year’s so there was no foliage but it was still beautiful.
There is a parking lot and pit toilets at the trailhead.

‘This is NOT a moderate trail!!! If the section between Bison Way and the Adena Arch were any more difficult we’d need respelling gear. Indian Staircase is one of the best spots in the gorge, but skip Adena Arch or do it as a spur and take Sheltowee back to Bison Way. This route is given in the “Indian Staircase “ trail. We hiked this route to allow my dying father to relive his gorge memories through the photos. I don’t think we’ll go this route again. If you do decide to hike it, go clockwise. This puts you going DOWN Indian Staircase, but that is better than going down the cliff from Adena Arch. My Dads directions: At the first side trail off Bison Way, go straight up the steep hill. When it looks like the trail ends, look up. You will see roots and vines in a crack in the rock. Climb them. Then you come to sandstone without a real path that you scramble up. Adena Arch is at the top. After that you just follow the cliff edge on your right... You know what? He hasn’t been there in at least 10 years but that was a perfect description. I guessed I thought he was exaggerating since the trail was rated moderate. Also, make sure you use the app to follow your progress on the trail map. There are a lot of unmarked crisscrossing paths.

The title of this trail is confusing as the trail does not actually go to or up the Indian Staircase. We started following this trail but realized it didn’t follow the correct route to the Staircase. We switched to “Indian Staircase to Adena Arch” which is the trail we really were wanting to follow. A word of caution though: that route is a difficult route with scrambles over rock faces and a few climbs up/down water drainages where you’ll be grateful for tree roots. This trail incorporates the worst of these without the actual Staircase or the amazing views from the top. After our experience today, I think the best route combines the two—going up the Staircase and then down the Sheltowee trail back to Bison Way to create a lollipop route. See the “Indian Staircase Trail” for this route. That’s what we’ll hike next time, though it misses Adena Arch.

The views! Super easy my grandma in her walker could do this trail! It’s the drive back the 5 mile dirt road! Easy enough except for the rather large wash out approx a half mile in! If you drive a Prius might I suggest you don’t go mudding through said puddle! Dude if you subscribe drop a note in here so we know you made it out! ❤️ your jumper cable friends

Very easy hike. Beautiful sunset. There was a really muddy area on the road getting to the trail. I would not have crossed if my vehicle didn’t have AWD.

nice easy trail with an awesome view at the end. only reason I didn't give it 5 stars is because it was labeled wheel chair accessable and it was a challenge pushing my daughter from pavement to rock.

Really like this trail. Lots of great rock features.

Very short and easy. Paved part of the way. Great short 5 min walk to see amazing views!
No idea why this is marked as “moderate.” Should be VERY EASY

The trek there wasn’t bad but we didn’t go to the top. Very very sketchy. My fiancé went further than I did and I prayed hard for his return. This is NOT kid friendly!!

Awesome place

Easy trail, good view.

Easy trail that leads to an incredible views

One of the more interesting hikes I’ve done in Res River Gorge. I wouldn’t think that most people would rate it as easy, especially the first part including the Indian stairs but certainly doable. Also parts are not marked so well so the app is very handy.

Easy short walk and great views. You have to drive 5 miles on a bumpy gravel road to get to the trailhead. See princess arch while you’re here too.

Cute little trail, everything the description said was on point! Great views!

A super quick hike to the viewpoint, terrific view of the area. Go at night to get a wondrous view of the clean night sky, bring a flashlight and pay attention on the trail though.

View from the lookout is top notch for sure!
