Not what you expect in Kansas.
Other worldly.

Nice wooded trails that are hard packed and clear with slight variations in elevation. Walked by train tracks never saw a lake and followed red trail on app. Did not come out where we started. Somewhat lost at end vs where we parked. Poorly marked trails which led us to the street north of Sixth street.

This is a great trail with many fun spots and lovely trees. It is not well marked. We had to use GPS with the app to find our way and that wasn't always correct. I wouldn't go if it has rained in the last three days as there are many muddy trails in shady areas. We went many days after a rain and we had to straddle some parts. There are many places along the route with water for refilling bottles.

Nice and easy trail with some length to it.

Rustic trail that made me work a little. Definitely need good hiking boots/shoes. Not paved.

My favorite of the 3 loops! Wildflowers are amazing in the spring/early summer!

Love all 3 of the Konza trails! The second and third loops are very sunny. They are especially beautiful in spring/early summer when there is an abundance of wildflowers!

Fun trail for mountain biking. Enjoyed jumping the rocky part of the trail.

Our go to trail for our sat hikes. There are 16% and 18% grades on the trail.
Great for getting ready for a good backpack trip.
We start at the trailhead and then go to the bridge after the portable potty on the other side of the hill. Then we turn around and do the hills again.

About as good as any and better than most for a workout.

Hot day for a hike, but that swim half way through helped with the heat. It is a fairly hilly trail, but the 7 and 9 year old with me were able to enjoy it. Going on a Saturday evening meant that the water area was pretty crowded, but we still found a spot to climb and swim. I would definitely come back and hike it again.

All depends on time of year for this trail. We went mid July and the heat was pretty bad especially without any shade. Also the scenic areas near the water were almost entirely occupied by pontoons and boats making the water access nearly impossible and a loud environment with music and beer bottles littered around the beach areas. We stuck only to the trails and ended up with a dermacentor tick on the sock despite bug spray. So make sure you do a good tick check afterwards. Despite the boats and the heat, id imagine in the late fall it would be really pretty. Lots of cacti, local plants, and rolling hills. The rock formations are also really great. Would not recommend doing this in the summer overall.

Gets crowded with bikers and runners.

This is my favorite trail in Topeka. There are 4 different routes you can choose. For being close to the city you really do feel you are on a hike in nature. Plus when you get to the top of Burnetts Mound it is the highest point in Topeka, so there is an beautiful view of the city. Also if you hike later in the day you get beautiful sunsets. This is such a beautiful hike for an area that you would think wouldn't have anything nice to look at.

Beautiful trail. Not much shade. I would advise wearing a sun hat.

Great little trail just outside the city. We did ~5.8 miles in ~2.25 hours connecting different trails. Some flat, some paved, some rooty, some rocky, a few small hills for a little more challenge in some places. Ticks are definitely present now (mid-June). Lots of shade on most trails, but quite a bit of sun exposure too. Bring plenty of water in the summer heat. Saw lots of butterflies and dragonfly-like things, and one little bitty harmless snake off the path. The observation deck had some nice purple and orange wildflowers as well. Appreciated no traffic sounds. Will definitely come back.

Beautiful trail!
A very easy and quiet walk.

This was a nice trail once you got to the wooden section off of the asphalt. Would recommend to friends.

I absolutely loved this trail! There’s a variety of trail conditions, 3 foot bridges, and a crumbling limestone structure of some kind. Follow the yellow blazes. Lots of bike traffic, a few runners and I was the lone hiker. I began at the Spillway (beautiful views...think Ozarks) and the trail exits at a shelter with facilities. You can stop here, or turnaround as I did, to get the entire 7.8.

For Topeka and NE KS---a very decent trail. The north "half" is paved; the south "half" is packed gravel and dirt. I imagine it would be very nice to bike it in the autumn during color change.

A friend and I hiked part of the orange trail and all of the red trail on a recent Saturday. Our whole hike was about 7 miles. Even though we hiked during the middle of the day, the trail was partly shaded and comfortable in temperature. This was my first visit to Shawnee Mission Park, and it is beautiful! The visitor's center staff is very friendly and provides free detailed maps. Like some other reviews mention, there are some large rocks and tree roots on the trail. Since we were hiking, this was not a problem, but it may be a challenge for a beginning biker. I can't wait to go back and try the other trails!

fun

take this trail frequently to get to the best spot on the lake.

although it was a great walk, load on the deet. I reapplied bug spray and still ended up with over 50 mosquito bites. It was still gorgeous.

Loved it. Nice prairie scenery. Very flat, which I like for biking. Great for a little family adventure. We started at the Goddard park. It has an awesome splash pad.
