this a great short trail. I run it quite a bit and you can add some legs to get a good 3 miles. lots of shade so great when its hot. Almost always get to see some deer as well.

We found out the hard way that this is NOT a biking trail like this app says. The park has multiple conflicting signs. Some say "bikes on designated trails", some say bikes allowed while the signs by the nature center say no bikes allowed anywhere. We rode for 1.5 miles and never say a no biking sign.

Nice hike close to town. Would rate as easy instead of moderate

Rustic trail that made me work a little. Definitely need good hiking boots/shoes. Not paved.

Hiked this trail 6-9-18. Hot day for June (95 degrees!). Lots of bugs swarming me the whole time, but only one bite. Overall, a decent hike with some minor elevation changes. A creek crossing, about half shaded, half exposed. A little too much gravel road for me... I felt like I was just walking through some farmer's field mostly. My phone says I walked 2.5 miles when I finished the trail... I prefer trails a bit longer (5-6 miles). The creek seemed pretty slimy...and an odor of something dead and decaying was prevalent in spots. The creek seemed more like cattle runoff (sewage) than a natural stream. But hey it was. Fairly quiet stroll away from the usual suburban "trail" of pavement and underpasses. I would hike again, maybe on a cooler day.

I took the children and found this end of the trail while having a great adventure. I recommend all families stop and take in the free adventure. You'll be impressed and happy you did.

Great trail, great park! I’ve hiked every inch of trail in the park and it’s great! I despise paved trails so I loved how the majority of the park has dirt trails. Haven’t been inside the nature center but probably will stop in next time I’m here for a hike. Only downside is dogs aren’t allowed anywhere in the park so I had to leave my hiking buddy home and he was not happy about it...I got the sad puppy dog eyes.

Skipped this trail/Park all together as it’s not dog friendly, and the loops are to short for more than a quickie . Nothing to see here

Always one of my favorite short hikes. Usually very little traffic and I almost always see a few deer.

This nature preserve is managed by the Kansas Dept of Wildlife and Parks and is a mixture of native prairie, restored prairie and woods. There is an Olathe City park just east with a similar name (Prairie Center Park), so they are easily confused.

The parking area on the NorthEast has an historic home and barn, with a minimalst information sign and some paper maps. There is no permanent map posted. There was a QR code posted, but I had no cell service to use it. The parking area on the NorthWest is just a trail-head. Both trail-heads had portable toilets, but we found no drinking water available, so bring plenty. The trails are all wide, and a mixture of gravel and mowed grass (which may change over time). The paper map at the park was slightly different than the AllTrails map, probably due to different mowed paths. There are many loops to the trail system, and the signs were not helpful, so some type of map is needed to navigate the trails. I found no maps online at the KS parks department website (odd).

There is a lake in the center of the park with a dock and picnic tables and vault toilets. There are also several small ponds within view of the trails, and we saw a few different animal tracks.

A large creek runs through the park, and there were several trail crossings through the creek. Most were paved and all had only a few inches of water and were easily crossed in hiking boots. We hiked in mid-August after substantial rain and saw 10-ish different wildflowers in bloom. A legend at the trail-head describing the various wildflowers and tallgrasses would be a great project to enhance the park.

Due to the ecological conservation effort, no pets and no bikes are allowed.

We saw lots of neat insects, but it was too noisy with the trains nearby.

Thumbs up. For beginners like us, the trail was exactly what we needed and expected. Most of the trail was shaded, with a few spots opening into prairie. A few crossroads with options to extend the hike. We will be back.

A trail through woods and several small streams. Rocky path in areas and can be muddy after rain because it's primarily compacted dirt trail. Lots of spider webs on trail so bring a stick to knock them down or you'll get a face full!
