Started on the west side at end. Walked about 3/4 mile. Walked around the flooded river, then walked a bit further around and were stuck. So headed back to car. Parked at 9 mile trailhead. Headed East it was flooded maybe 1/4 mile in. Turned around to go west. We walked around the flooded trail and got to about the 12 1/2 mile marker. There we saw a mama beaver who looked pregnant. Also saw a copperhead. The trail was flooded here as well, so we turned around to head back to the parking lot. We camped slightly past the parking lot. Great spot right off the trail and a fire pit. Saw a couple armadillos at night. Had to walk quite a bit off the trail due to flooding. I’m sure it is absolutely beautiful as others had described. We will be back to explore when it’s less flooded.

Trail was closed off as of 5/23 7:30pm.

Nice path for hiking with family. Great photo opportunities! Lots of good sites and well maintained. It was worth the drive.

It was a little muddy but nothing crazy. The first part of the trail is in the sun.

The trail is decent for urban walking, biking, and taking your kids or dog around. Paved pathways and it is nice to see and hear the creek. Most of the trail butts up against people’s backyards though, so you won’t ever feel like you are deep within nature.

It was ok. The main trail is marked well, but we weren’t sure where we were to begin with, so just wondered awhile. We aren’t from the area, so we’re not sure what to expect. It’s a nice city nature trail.

Would someone associated with All Trails please update your descriptions and drawings of the trails at Kaw Valley State Park to make them reflect the reality of the trails? I am making the same request of the Kansas Wildlife and Parks office. Their maps were pitiful and unclear to put it nicely. I walked the trails with a friend today and we had no idea what trail we were on, how far we had come and how to return to our vehicle. Most folks we asked who we met on the trail we were in the boat. My three star rating is about the mapping by both KWP and All Trails. The trails were a 4 star experience, although I do worry some that in a month poison ivy could be overtaking the path through the woods at some points meaning hikers would likely be brushing up against poison ivy to maneuver the path.

Good trail. It was well marked, secluded and heavily wooded - especially for Kansas. My 16-year old and I did the full red trail (5.8 miles) in just over 2 hours. It was muddy but not too bad. We saw a ton of frogs and toads and even a baby copperhead snake. I think we saw 6 people all day, including at the trail head. All in all it was exactly what we were looking for.

Nice, easy, flat trail. First mile in is the covered bridge and very scenic. Miles after that are just farmland and open with no shade. Definitely recommend the first mile on foot. If you want to walk farther you can but better for biking so you can go faster.

Very muddy, but peaceful and cool

5/23/20. Trail closed 1205pm Just heads up. I assume due to rain recently?

This trail was a lot of fun. A really wide open space with very little shade cover. But the views are amazing.

Nice wide trail with great landscape and picture opportunities.

We didn't really understand the route based on the map posted here. We found a trail and just started walking/hiking. Much of it runs parallel to the water, and the view is spectacular. Unfortunately, though, much of the trail is further out from the water--it is narrow, in the middle of a meadow, and lots of critters were around. We saw two large bull snakes (one was 4', one somewhat smaller) which was rather terrifying! Also saw a few turtles and lizards. We cut the hike short and only did about 3 miles instead of the 7-9 I had hoped for.
