Great trail for the beginning hiker, or everyday walking. This trailhead is perfect for the beginning hiker, who wants a medium to long trek that is basically a complex loop. The park is basically 1.5 miles long as the crow flies, but the trail utilizes the entire park by bending and curving around and seems like a 3-5 mile hike all together. The hike is a bit noisy due to the four-lane highway-20 that passes through the middle of the park via an elevated bridge. This park trail system does not have any place to sit-down for those with walking issues, and the park has not been signed for tree species or nice-to-know info. The trails are less maintained than other Black-Hawk Park trail parks in that you will experience some trail debris like logs and branches, and patches of this trail are sandy.Show more

Length: 0.9 mi • Est. 22 m
Easy, well maintained dirt trail, around the perimeter of a nice clean lake. Lots of birds and other wildlife use this area. The hike itself is a rather easy walk, along a well maintained dirt trail. this trail follows the profile of the lake, but more trails are available that meander through the GreenBelt system of parks. Some of these trails can be slightly demanding, but have no major elevation changes. The length of your hike can be of personal preference, from the .9 mi loop around the lake, or connecting to the other GreenBelt parks by connecting trails. Making any length possible. Several Geocaches are available in this system of parks.Show more

Easy hike on well maintained dirt trail with crystal clear streams and wild flowers. This hike is along a wide dirt trail that is very well maintained. Cardinal Trail: About 1/2 mi into the hike you will cross one of the cleanest streams around, by means of a nice wooden bridge. In the spring the ground is covered with Wild Bluebells. Many other wild flowers are also present, and the birds are everywhere. The trail will join up with the local nature trail for the second half of your walk. This portion will be on a nice paved surface. As you return to the parking area on the south side you will encounter the remains of an early 1900's Cabin.Show more

Length: 1.1 mi • Est. 27 m
Please note that after rains this area may be flooded and closed. Please check with the Hartman Reserve Nature Center for more information. Short flat trail around the edge of Shirey Lake located in Hartman Reserve. The trail is shown as a full loop online, but the north side is really just a beach and a distinct trail fades away into a wide unmarked sandy area. For that reason and a large down tree it is typically hiked as a point to point to point or out and back trail. On the east side of the lake you can take a slight turn off of Shirey trail onto Osprey trail you can view the hacking tower used to raise Osprey hatchlings.Show more
