I took my 4 kids ages 5-10. The green trail was not easy for them as it was up and down a lot with tons of tree roots as obstacles. I had a trailer tandem for my 5 year old and the uneven hills caused the bar to rub my back tire. Positive was that there is a road straight through we could easily cut back to return to the car when needed. Lovely nature and peaceful scenery.

As good as it gets for mountain biking in Iowa.

This trail was very disappointing. I mean it had good terrain but it was very short. When I hike, I like to go for 4-6 hours. This trail took less than an hour and I spent more time hiking on the road back to my vehicle. Not to mention it’s the only available hiking trail at Sugar Bottom. For serious and avid hikers, don’t waste your time!

Beautiful trails, even in the winter!

nice scenic trail, wooded areas but also opens up. Easy walk and hardly any hills.

The trails are wide and easy. The man made waterfall at the dam spillway is cool to see, and the lake is beautiful.

We hike here a lot! I love the trails and there's so much to see! The Raptor Center is a bonus!

My favorite trail in Johnson Co. It contains 7.1 mls of trails, in a peninsula bordered by Co.Rd. F-22. All levels of hiking, from easy(Bluebird), moderate(Blue Stem, Hawk Ravine & Field Campus). The Osprey trail is rugged and connects to the MacBride Spillway. Owned by Corps & Iowa, it is managed by the U of Iowa. Their managers, Robert & Bob love it as much as I and our work there shows it. Two nice campgrounds and real bathroom/running water. Great cross-country skiing in winter, sailing club and Raptor Center. Check out the bird blind, nice rest after hiking.

Many side trail loops on both sides of the fire road. North side is most challenging. ICORR has put much labor & money into it's infrastructure. Narrow paths for bikes, watch your back.

Great mountain biking. 6 different loops, 3 different skill levels.

Really nice campsite. Really enjoyed the day. Nice clean bathrooms.

I definitely recommend The Rapture Project! This park has a nice sequence of trails and wildlife and is definitely easy to spend a day here.

If your looking for a trail just for a hike Sugar Bottom isn't a bad place, but if you like me and you want scenery and encounters with wildlife and other nature this trail isn't for you.

The Raptor Project is a must see if you are hiking this area. There are several raptors housed on permanent display in outdoor cages for public viewing. No admission but I always leave a few bucks in the donation bin for this worthy cause. There is a short 1/4 mile walk in from the parking area, or it can also be reached via the hiking trails that criss-cross the vicinity if you started from another trailhead. Bald Eagle, Golden Eagle, Hawks, Owls, and Vultures can all be seen up close. There is also a prairie restoration area, butterfly garden and trails leading to the shore of the lake. There is also a well stocked bird feeding station with bird blind for observation. Many of the common woodland species can be seen from the blind including, nuthatches, Cardinals, Wrens, woodpeckers, finches, sparrows, Titmouse, and Blue Jays.
