First one on the trail after a morning snowfall. Beautiful!

12.7.19 - I consider this an easy trail. No hills or challenging terrain. Trail was somewhat muddy but clear and it appears trail maintenance is ongoing judging by 2 new, short, flat bridges. Trail is not well marked throughout; however, the beginning of the trail does have a small sign, which also says no bikes allowed. That being said, there was plenty of bike tread on the trail. A good trail for a leisurely hike. No benches or bathrooms along the way. There are benches, bike racks, tire pump, and picnic table at the trail head. Bikes are to remain on the paved path.

Such a beautiful place and always one of my favorite short hikes in Wapello County! Make sure you check out the Pioneer Cemetery. It is a steep grade to that location.

A nice circular trail. Mix of gravel and asphalt. Nice views of water through the trees. Loud airplanes every now and then.

Love these trails. Very close to North Liberty, so I can make the commute on my bike via Mehaffey bridge paved trail. Usually in good condition with some down trees. Beautiful ride though, I’m always stopping for photos.

Not really a hiking experience and I would rate it as easy. The main trail is all blacktop. It goes through a wooded area, a prairie and ends in a busy street. The last eighth of a mile is a steep downhill, which you climb immediately on the way back. There are several dirt side trails that I did not take, but appeared not to be long.

This trail is down a gravel road, near the Children’s Zoo. It is primarily a mountain biking trail, although my dog and I liked it. Pretty stream.

Some of the best mountain biking in the area, this trail system offers some nice flow with some slightly technical sections to keep you on your toes. Rocks and roots in areas with some punchy climbs to get your heart rate up. Rides well going in either direction. The current map does not include all sections of trail.

I've been playing on this trail for 20 years and it's seen some huge improvements in the last 5. Make sure you're paying attention to other traffic on the trail. People are hauling ass on the downslopes or struggling with climbs. Check out the conditions on Center Trails page before heading there.

Great little trail in the Jefferson park. App malfunctioned so didn’t capture the full recording but still wanted to add my review. It was a grassy path that led by some little ponds, had several bridges and benches along the way. Will be nice to return to this one in fall when the leaves change.

Held up pretty well considering the rain we’ve had! Still a favorite!

For this area of Iowa it is a nice trail. I did this trail twice. Once in August and once in September. I used it as a training hike for hiking in CO since it is the longest trail close to me and there are a few inclines. Take bug spray as the gnats can be annoying. Also I would recommend wearing long pants no matter the temperature. The trail is a little overgrown in parts and I ended up with chigger bites both times I hiked it (chiggers love me, the other people I hiked with didn’t get any)! There are several bathrooms located at picnic spots along the way but they may not be open year round. The trail can require a little bit of route finding when you come to open areas but there are signs at each place to point the way you just have to look for them.

As of July 2019, a portion of this trail is officially closed due to flood damage to the black top surface. The section from where the bridge crosses from Pfeiffer Park to the T intersection heading to and from Josh Higgins shelter is blocked off and the gates are closed.

The Katoski Greenbelt is a nice, easy ride when conditions permit. Black Hawk Creek is prone to flooding and the trail becomes overgrown by mid summer. The trail is most popular during the spring Bluebell bloom and can be absolutely beautiful. Winter activities such as fat biking, snowshoeing and XC skiing are also popular. This is just one section of the entire Greenbelt that extends both north and south of this loop.

Amazing trail, it’s not very crowded and it has tons of shade. There are also many small towns along the way.

Trail is well maintained, mostly level and a nice jaunt with a dog.
