Decorah, Iowa Map

Great hard-surface trail - walking or biking. Parts are flat; parts give you a run for your money with steep hills and switchbacks. Very scenic in most parts.

we walked .18 miles & got to a stream that we had to cross with no bridge. we walked back out. total trip .39 miles. not recommended.

Actually, my family and I did this trail on rollerblades, though I imagine it would be great for biking. The trail is nice, though hillier than one would expect Iowa to be, and it does not offer much shade coverage. If you go out on a hot day, bring lots of water. The fishery is a really interesting stop as you’re going along—I thought it was neat to see. Afterwards, have a nice meal in the downtown, and even stop by Luther College and take a quick tour about the beautiful campus.

Fun loop around a beautiful town. The eastern half (from town, around the hills, ends at the fish hatchery and eagles nest) is relatively flat and requires minimal effort, but still gives you a nice view of the area. The western half (fish hatchery, multiple hills and switchbacks, through the cut and along the river) requires much more effort but is definitely worth it. Beautiful ride can be had on both halves.

Take a virtual bike ride around it in two minutes:

I run these trails all the time. It is beautiful and quiet. Some challenging hills, but always worth it.

Loved these trails. There are lots of trails and it connects to Dunning Springs and Palisades Park also. Right in town, easy to get to. The overview says its recommended for very experienced outdoorsmen; however I didn't feel like that is correct, if you are hiking. As far as it being a mountain bike trail, yes, very hard. But hiking, I would say these trails would be fine for about anyone. It is up and down hills, but nothing too steep, nothing scary. Perfect trails for me!

Multiple trails to choose from. Beautiful scenery and well maintenance trail system. You can use your smart phone to scan a code on the main sign to get a trail map.

Very steep climbs and descents that go on for a long time. This trail certainly has more topography than other MTB trails in IA. Make sure you practice riding plenty of hills before tackling this trail. Overall a great place to ride and you'll hardly see another person on the trail all day.

GREAT Trout fishing along this stretch. Come early Spring for the best fishing. It tends to get a little over grown later in the year. There are also free public campsites available for car camping. Stop in at the Highlandville General Store for everything you need from fishing licenses to food & ice to all kinds of outdoor gear. For those looking for a more comfortable stay there are also cabins available for rent.
