lovely park-very clean and a great path! Made a lot of memories today creek stomping with my wee one before she heads off to college-she's majoring in Forrestry and Park Management

Very beautiful! Especially in the fall. Lots of caves to explore, both big and small. Be prepared for some good cardio, lots of stairs and hills. To hike all the trails took us approximately 3 hours. Would definitely go back!⭐️

great trail for a half day trip or so!

Love! My absolute favorite!

Starr's Cave is beautiful, with limestone bluffs shadowing Flint Creek that runs through the park. During the winter you can rent cross country skis to explore either the creek or trails. The trail system starts at the nature center and has several areas where it veers off into other trails. If you stay on the main trail the entire loop will take you back around to the backside of the nature center for just under 3 miles of distance covered. It's an easy trail with only a couple good hills toward the end of the trail. Several bridges to cross along the way. The main cave that's across the long bridge toward the beginning of the trail is closed off, but you can still walk up to the entrance and look around. The view off the bridge is breathtaking, especially during fall colors peak season in October. There are 2 other smaller caves you can take the trails and either climb up to get inside, or climb down - depending on which trail you take to get to it. It's small, but big enough to stand up inside and go in to the back of it and check it out. I didn't get to the other cave, but I'm pretty sure it's on a trail across Flint Creek. There's a trailhead for that one out on Irish Ridge Road. I love hiking out there to explore nature as well as running the trails for a good workout.

lots of fun up and down with plenty of caves to look into

The trails were really easy for our family with young children and there were a lot of cool caves to explore. It was fairly clean and nice facilities.

Very easy, but actually quite a variety and an adventure!

Great small walk. Worth a stop. Bring a dog to enjoy the stream.

Great place to hike and explore!

Awesome trail. Lots of caves to explore including a huge walk through one. This map helped alot to keep us in the right path. The trails aren't well marked. This 1.7 mile path took us about 3 hours which included plenty of water breaks. We will definitely go again to explore more of the trails.

14 caves and 6.6 miles

Multiple short out-and-back trails to different overlooks. Canyon is pretty, good views, partial timber partial prairie

The scenic overlook was so beautiful but it was confusing to find the trails. The sign looks like you should go right, but you need to go straight. The view is worth it. Could someone please tell me how to get to the caves? Also I see pictures of people kayaking here. Where do they get the boats into the creek?

Nice short hike down a beautiful, secluded ravine

Very fun hike! Good for my 4 and 7 year old boys. My only complaint is that the trails aren't marked well.

We were @ the caves in Maquoketa state park on Sept17th/ need to have garbage can's @ least outside shelter buildings. Only in bathroom and they were very, very over full! Lots of garbage down by trails / around the caves. I realize they can not get so easy to garbage can's down by caves but there is a solution for a small part of this. People riding around in gators can @ least dump the garbage can's in the bathrooms. It was between noon and 3:00 when we were there. Hate to see such a great park get run down by simple things that can be done. The caves are wonderfull!!! Our grandson loved them.

My family and I love the caves. We enjoy hiking here a few times each year as it is fairly close to home. The trails are beautiful and caves are definitely a great work of art by nature. The kids and dog love getting dirty while spelunking through the various caves and creeks. Highly recommended!

We pulled into the lot and noticed it is a public hunting area. There were two truckloads of men and some had semi-automatic guns. Needless to say we did not hike as it didn't feel safe at all!

Really nice spots, great nature with caves and small rivers. You can visit ice caves and/or rainy caves.

Went on a Tuesday, which I would highly recommend. parking was no problem, but weekend was packed. trails and caves were great. bring flashlight and walkie talkies for when you get separated, bug spray, water, and a towel if warm.

There are some cool places here. The southern trail, through the canyon, is beautiful and unique. And the scenic overlook is gorgeous (but treacherous, with no railing of any kind). There are far more than 2.5 miles of trails here. Some are out and back spurs. We hiked nearly everything, and came in at just about eight miles of total hiking. My biggest criticism is that 90% of the trails are mowed paths. Fortunately it was cloudy (and then rained after we finished).

it was amazing. Would do it again. However, I found the map and markers around the trail to be confusing. it seemed as if I was not the only one confused either.

Beautiful scenery. Trail is not long but you can do several loops. Would do again!

This is a fun place. There are caves for all abilities. We visited right after a rainstorm so we encountered significant mud, but it was great fun. There are not miles and miles of trails, so if you are looking to log miles, this is not a great place. The trails are heavily traveled and packed.

Came here with friends after moving to the area lots of unique in and around the caves. Not what you'd expect in Iowa.
