Extremely informative good for any level of activity.

on The Potholes

This is the same area as Jim Jontz Fall Creek Gorge Nature Preserve: it includes the Potholes (large ovals created by glacial activity and then water wearing away at the stone), as well as the waterfalls further up the trail. There are two sets of short somewhat steep sets of stairs, but should be fine for most people and even kids. Stay on the main trail and do not take what appear to be trails that traverse dangerously close to the edges of the gorge and then disappear. You will still be able to get beautiful pictures. There is one small area between the stairways that require you to cross the stream, but even in full flow, these are more like rivulets running over stone. You don’t need to get wet.

Very nice short hike w/many interesting features: Potholes, waterfalls, clear water on Creek essentially running over a stone bottom, lots of deer. The heavy rains provided a lovely display, but not dangerously so-Short, easy and well suited to children. We went early in morning and it was cold enough for ground to be hard; on the way back (and much warmer) we could see it could get quite muddy.

I hiked this in a counter clockwise direction. Clear path. Markers when needed. The observation deck next to the creek was nice. Over all a nice trail!

This is primarily an out and back trail with a short loop at the beginning. I skipped the loop going out and picked it up on my return. There was a downed tree at the first inlet that requires decent climbing. I’m sure they’ll have it cleared soon.

I wish I had had a trash bag with me as there was quite a bit of trash that had been washed in with all the rain/flooding.

I lost the trail for a minute or so at a creek crossing. I think the trail could use a few more markers in those areas.

Over all a great little hike!

Well marked moderate trail.

A peaceful walk along the shore of the lake. A much narrower path than memorial loop.

Great hike for a family. Half of the trail is easy walking. The other half will take more effort.

Enjoyable walk. Trail head is easy to find. Trail is easy to follow. A few small hills along the way.

What a gem! Potholes and a waterfall all in a short but sweet hike. 10/10 would hike again.

See also Fall Creek Gorge Nature Preserve. 10/10 would hike again.

Beautiful and unique area that's definitely worth the stop. Be prepared to get your feet wet to see some of the best views. Also, the main trail is moderate but there are alternate trails that take you closer to the canyon edges that would be considered hard.

Nice shorter trail. Red Springs are pretty cool. Kid friendly.

Nice hike along the western lakeshore. Would say this is an Easy + difficulty rating. It appears you may be able to continue around the north tip of the lake by taking a left before the stairs to the observation deck. We did this hike while the trees were still bare but it must be much more beautiful once everything is in bloom.

Just a tip...the trail entrance is a wide, mowed path that heads north from the center of the parking lot. Take the path off to the right once on the mowed path. Going straight takes you to the latrines.

An easy walker. Slightly overgrown with vegetation in a few areas. I was slightly disappointed in the overlook. The view is obstructed by trees and brush; overall a nice trail.

Another nice hike at Whitewater Memorial State Park. 57 steps at the observation deck at the end of the trail. Trail head is at the Nature Preserve parking lot.

Nice trail. Red Springs are cool! Park at Nature Preserve parking lot. Recommend going counter-clockwise to complete loop.

We hiked this last fall. We parked at the boathouse and walked to the campgrounds and back. Found some empty snake eggs and lots of buzzards on this trip.

We hiked this trail last fall. We liked that it showed a lot of the park as it is one of the central most trails.

We hiked this trail last fall. We liked the variety of trees and lake views throughout the hike. We camped in the family cabins and did this one early in the day. There is a small loop at the beginning, so we went on one part of the loop going and came out another just to see the entire trail.

We hiked almost everyone of these trails. There was only one loop that we didn't get to due to rain on the last day and we had planned the hike for that time. We stayed in one of the cabins and hiked in the morning and evening with our 3 children. My youngest was nearly 4 yo at the time and she kept up very well. Don't miss all the steps down and back up at the dam.
