Great place to get some nature, even if you are in a time crunch. I can easily get a loop in on my lunch break. But mostly I enjoy taking it slow and exploring with the kids and dog. Definitely is an easy trail, not moderate. You are walking on gravel or mulch, but it might as well be a paved surface.

nice park, great playground and bike trails

Some of the trails are gravel and some are dirt so those can get muddy, but it's a pretty park with good trails that loop for day hiking. There are benches spread out along with picnic tables. Dogs are allowed and there are even some of those pet waste disposal bag dispensers. Unfortunately not all owners pick up after their dogs so you do have to watch out for it on the trails.

Low gap is my go to trail for anywhere near Bloomington Indiana. The 10mi loop trail averages the same elevation change per mile as the Appalachian trail and has a two mile extension in the rock shelter if you're interested in traveling further or wish to see something slightly different from the rest of the trail. I will note that the parking lot on low gap rd is probably best situated for hiking the best this trail offers. I will note that there are dozens of deer that bed inside of this trail, I've seen a puffball mushroom twice the size of my head, and I've seen a jack-o-lantern mushroom bigger than an ice cooler at the rock shelter extension trail head.

I made it to the point where you have to follow the creek bed. Definitely a trail to return to when the weather warms up. Even though I couldn’t hike the entire trail I still had some gorgeous views!

A snow covered hike on a well marked trail. A few creek crossings the resulted in slightly wet boots. Will definitely be back to enjoy this trail in other seasons.

Great park near the Fort, for you, the fam, and the dog!

A paved path the wanders along White Lick Creek and thru the woods. Hummel Park is a typical city park with the usual amenities. A playground for the kids. An outdoor performing arts venue. Athletic fields and picnic shelters. There is also a sizeable sledding hill when snow is on the ground. Spotted either a hawk or a falcon perched in the underbush beside a pond, ( I'm no bird expert but I believe it was or the other).

A great resource for this part of the state. The hiking trail was longer, more meandering, and more challenging than I had anticipated, all of which were nice. I first hiked this trail in January 2018, with a full backpack and trekking poles, during snow and cold weather. I saw only a few ice fishermen and one mountain biker when I was there, so lightly populated. I wish I had visited Westwood sooner and will definitely be back.

Theres a great fire tower that you can hike or drive too, really nice in the late summer

Incredibly beautiful if you’re willing to work for it

The trail is great for what it is, a sliver of nature surrounded by urbanization. Trail is flat, easy to follow, and easy to hike. Currently the park is doing some select timber harvesting so you will encounter work crews and controlled brush fires. Overall great quick winter hike.

Beautiful waterfall and fun scramble down the frozen river. The second half of the hike wasn't as amazing, but still pretty! The start of trail 3 was really confusing, but that may have been due to the snow and ice.

Great short hike for a very cold New Year’s Day. The stream was frozen over so it was great for exploring off the trail a bit.

Awesome trails!!!
Starting at the nature center going towards the inn pick up trail 3 heading out to trail 9 then over to bluebird hill then on to the spring shelter then out to the farthest point along snow lake then follow trail along the lakes through part of the campground and the beach then pick up the trail again heading back towards the nature center is about as close to a nice 10 mike loop my wife and I love to do!!!! Oh and don’t forget a trip up to hells point!!!!!!

Good trail. Watch for valleys.
