It’s a nice woodsy trail but extremely muddy right now, as others have noted. Part of the creek trail is underwater and impassable. We will try it again later in the season.

Water level is super high and you can’t complete the loop. Still fun and nice to get out in nature.

Loved it! Beautiful scenery

Steep dune hills that make for a great workout and tons of fun!

Awesome hike!! I would even rate this trail hard because of how difficult the sand is to hike in. Loved the trail and the beach! Def recommend doing the trail side first and end on the lake.

Totally worth the hike for the views!!! - People are social distancing due to Covid19. People are very respectful today on the trail. - Take Trail 10 to right to start. Then take trail 9. This will avoid the sand dune hill going up and very enjoyable coming down. - Trail 10-9 Loop is beautiful! Bring a snack or lunch. Plenty of spots to have a stopping break with a view. Bring water. - Trails are full of wildlife and flowers. Took my 14 year old niece and she loved the hike. - Dog on leash okay. Not a friendly trail for wheelchair or strollers.

Trail was awesome when hiking on the dunes beachside. Rest of trail was really flat with some muddy patches. Overall decent trail.

The trail wasn’t marked well, when I did it. (year ago ish).

This is a beautifully maintained trail. 95% is in excellent condition, and 5% is muddy. Wooded trail, open prairie, river, stairs and boardwalks. You will also go past Chellberg Farm and Bailey Homestead. Highly recommended!

Messy, easy trails. After hiking out west for 10 days, these trails leave much to be desired. Not a lot of scenery to look at.

This trail was great… It had a pretty steep incline right off the bat… But it got pretty flat after the first mile. If you don’t want to do the entire trail it is very easy to shorten this and cut down to the beach and make it a shorter loop. Overall it was a fun day hike!

First time being there today and will be returning. The trails were great. We walked 8 miles total. The only thing I would suggest put more trail signs. There’s so many trails there that it does get a little confusing at times. One more thing, on the maps put a star where the location of the map is at. Again will be going back. Plus I’m a photographer, but I didn’t do pix today. I will when going back. I seen so many great shots to get. Definitely a 5 star place. I seen people mentioned flooding, but the park signs did say the trails were closed because of being wet. You just had to avoid those areas. Make sense since it did rain a lot.

Bring your boots! Lots of flooding; we had to turn back barely a quarter mile into the trail. Looking forward to coming back in drier times!

Very nice hike but be prepared for a pretty muddy time!

Quick hike, but the sand makes it a great workout.

Interesting time to be going on a short hike, but people stay fairly separated even with larger crowds. It’s much needed to get your hair blow around a bit in the sun. Beautiful hike - dunes can be a small challenge and get your heart working but we all need a bit of that. Of course, spending some time at the lake is always a plus. You can see the Chicago skyline on a clear day!

Beautiful hike in the early spring. Lots of changes in elevation. Great views of the lake. Good for kids.

A few muddy areas on trail 10 about 2-2.5 miles in, nothing good boots can’t handle. Great beach area!

Dogs allowed on leash. Very busy trail and beach on weekends but it's a great hike and workout. I did it starting with the dunes first and ending with the long walk on the beach and really enjoyed getting tha hard part out of the way but bring water, especially for your dog during the dunes part.
