I walk my dog here frequently. Nice loop and scenery around water. A lot of places to stop and give my dog water at a bench or table, a few trash cans along the way for tossing his waste so I’m not carrying it the whole time. Sometimes I wish it was longer but I just loop around 2-3 times.

This was a nice trail. Black topped path with nice greenery surrounding path. Some areas of the water were a bit foul smelling. The area just past the cafe was along a busy road but if you wanted to shorten the trail you could bypass that part and go across the covered bridge. all in all a nice walk.

Trail was fun. Lots of walking bridges and steep hills. Mainly made for mountain biking however was a fun hike as well. Stuck to the expert trails for the most interesting sights.

Beautiful park with lots of wildlife.

It was a great day hike!

Free parking. No bathroom. For the first and probably last .5/mile you are hiking close to road so you hear a lot of traffic. Very swampy, so put on bug spray. It's not a really scenic hike but it is challenging. I was hiking with my dog so stayed on the intermediate trails when they split. The whole hike was VERY well marked and nearly impossible to lose your way. Taking the intermediate trails, the hike is just under 3 miles.

Wasn't expecting much, but it was a cool trail. We were training for our Out West hike coming up and the constant up and down was good for that. Only thing is you have to be wary of mountain bikers. I think we hikers annoy them.

This is a very nice black top trail. Fishing or canoeing the length of the trail. There are some very nice out cove lookouts that are framed and railed. There are several spots to stop or start on trail. This trail is in town but most of the trail you would not know it.

If you start at the green dot there is minimal parking. If you start at Shady Side Park " black dot" there is lots of free parking and plumbed bath rooms. There is also a very nice playground for the kids and a couple of short paths around the park to walk.

I used to hike here a lot. Lots of shade in most areas and many different obstacles. Lots of fun, and free.

a lot of spots on the outer loop right next to the river were so low they were swamped. We trudged through quite a bit of mud. The mosquitos out there were insanely bad.

Great easy hike, wide and well-marked. Plenty of benches, picnic table and some shelters along the way. The lower part of Trail 5 can be inaccessible if the water is high. Make sure to bring bug spray!

Nice trail. Don't forget the insect repellent. When the trail crosses the road you need to travel down the road a ways to pick up the trail. If you go directly across the road you switch to trail 4.

Follow the expert trail markers for a good workout. Mosquitos were pretty bad due to all the rain, but a good bug spray will take care of it. Didn't see a single hiker or biker.

I live at the northern edge of the preserve. I walk my dogs often in the woods, and sometimes have problems with bikers coming around curves on the trails and not seeing us. Dogs and fast moving bikes don't mix well! I am looking into maybe setting up some trails just for hiking and walking dogs. I guess the first stop should be city hall to find out what it's going to take to make it happen. Any thoughts on this??

It is a lot bigger than you would think just by looking at the parking lot. Great little walk through, and for bird watching in the spring out by the north meadow. Great bike trails but use with extreme caution.

Great family park. Easy trails. Picnic tables everywhere. Grills and pavilions. Most of the trails are the six foot wide graded type. My grand kids love it. The dogs love it to. You can wade or fish in the river just off the trails.

This was our first hike of 2017 and in February no less. We did the expert trail and enjoyed it alot. Met a few bikers who were courteous and let us know they were behind us and a jogger that didn't and scared the bejesus out of us. Bikers thank you. We have hiked several places in Southern Indiana, Kentucky and Tennessee and this trail is a comparable workout. We are glad we took the time to do it.

Very pleasant hiking trail. Wide, clear and well kept. A little slick in spots with ice on the trail this morning.

RNP has 3 loops; Novice, Intermediate, and Expert. Novice is smooth, fast, and flowing. Intermediate is narrow with a few natural obstacles. Expert is tighter, slower, and loaded with obtacles such as suspension bridge, elevated trail, gap jump, teeter totter, etc. All trails are single track and one direction (counterclockwise like a racetrack).
Novice = 2miles
Intermediate = 3.2miles
Expert = 6.4miles

I love Shadyside! Going to college in Anderson made this a great place to go running for a workout or walk and talk with a friend. It's beautiful. My husband and I even got our engagement pictures done here.
