Nice easy hike, just be prepared to step off the path for mountain bikers and check out the ponds off trail

Nice trails, little confusing with the maps and the trails are not marked well.

Great calm peaceful trail that is gravel and dog friendly! Not over crowded and provided some peaceful views with wildflowers and a few bodies of water.

Really enjoyed our hike as it had very interesting patches.

New trail for me, surprised to see a paved trail here, easy to navigate, though paved its run down and very bumpy due to cracks. River smells , but I would ride it again. Straight as the crow flys. Has mile markers on the trail, climbing the bridge at Route 83 is cool ... Down side is you have to turn around and ride same trail back .

Nice trail to prepare for hiking trips. The trail is unmarked in one part but it’s easy to figure out. Good ~10 mile hike!

Great hiking trail. I liked the different elevations. Many mountain bikers from both ways to watch out for, but they alert you when they’re coming and let you know how many more are behind them. Looking forward to biking next time although it looks a little harder than a moderate trail.

Truly enjoyed this trail. Rolling hills, great vistas, and bullfrogs singing at the Tomahawk Slough.

The area was beautiful but definitely not conducive to biking. Lots of hills + gravel/sand = not easy (as marked in the description).

As a novice, this trail was tough for me, very tough after intersection 30! There were some big dips that I didn’t even attempt, lots of tree roots in the trail, and a lot of mud after the recent rain. Tough but fun!

Garmin plotted it at 5.83 miles. Pretty easy on foot and well marked. Trail was a lot of fun and good elevation changes for the area. There was an expected mix of courteous bikers and douchewaffles, but overall the baddies didn’t ruin the hike. I want to come back and try to run this trail.

This is a mix of cook county forest preserve trails that vary from gravel, dirt, and paved. Well maintained and marked.

Took the dog and it was great, definitely more of a mountain bike trail. But decently challenging either way. If you have smaller kids or a dog stay alert! There are some blind corners and fast downhills for the bikes and you might need to get out of the way quickly. The bikers were polite though. If you’re on foot clockwise is the way to go.

Excellent hike. Great terrain. Beautiful lakes. Get out early to avoid all the bikers.

Good for distance and building up endurance for other adventures but certain spots lacked signs for first time out on the trail to easily know where to go from there.

It's a nice hike without a lot of hills. There are a few body's of water and I see tons of deer and coyotes. I don't know what that other person is talking about on pavement. There is no pavement.

This is my favorite local trail. Single track, rugged trail with good hills. Watch out for tons of mountain bikers. Good tree cover in the summer to protect from the sun. Really nice place to get in a semi challenging hike truly in nature.

My favorite for my skill level.

Went out here to check out the county's exploratory trail signs. It's a nice hike on pavement through some of the lovely scenery of SW Cook County

Hiking gem in the Chicagoland area. Tons of trails so no hike should ever be the same. The trails are grass, dirt, and gravel. For IL, there is quite an elevation change, which I liked. There are several other hikers and many bikers, but trails are wide enough to accommodate all. Views are great, and people are friendly.

Good distance loop that’s good for training for other adventures. Trail isn’t very inspiring and mountain bikers (though courteous) tend to rule the trail and run you off to the side. Trail is clean but could use improvement on way signage.

Trail is beautiful, and well maintained. A lot of work has been put in to make this a really nice mountain biking trail (jumps, banked curve sections, log rides) so it's no surprise there are a lot of riders. Although I didn't see any other hikers, the riders were very courteous and alert, with great communication. I also went counterclockwise, which helped a lot with bike traffic.

We took the advice from previous reviews and hiked clockwise. Most of the mountain bikers were riding counter clockwise so it was much easier to see them. We passed a mountain bike clinic between markers 19 and 20, but they stopped everyone as soon as we walked up and let us hike through. The trail was well marked and had some elevation. There was a sign saying the trail is only open when dry and could see how it could get very muddy with some rain.

Super cool trail, really pretty...I loved it because it felt very secluded despite other people being there. I would definitely recommend hiking here!

Great place for a morning run. Went around 6:30 am and there were about a half dozen runners and no cyclists.

Nice hiking area, lots of trails to choose from, all the trails we were on provided lots of shade. Only downside is the trails seem to be most heavily used by mountain bikes and on occasion blind corners on a fairly skinny trail were somewhat dangerous, especially when hiking with my dog.
