First, this is a horse trail. Watch where you step! Also be aware and give them a wide berth. If you’re good with that, this is a fun short hike.

Several larger ponds and lots of woods make this a scenic hike. Tons of wildlife here and if you walk back into the woods a little, sit down on a log, and be still, you’ll be rewarded with an abundance of animal activity.

I wouldn’t come here after rain as it would quite muddy. It opens early, so if you like a sunrise hike, this is a great place. Don’t leave anything of value in your car. Parking is secluded and not great and signs warn of keeping your valuables with you. That said, I wouldn’t avoid this place due to safety. It’s really nice!

Great place to fish. Clean lakes and a great museum

Take an off trail hike around the lake.

did the one mile loop and it was enjoyable with food, clean view and a small bridge. Lots of other trails that I will check or in the future

Nice hike through the woods year round. I love to snow shoe here. I frequently see deer when I hike here.

rock used on trails too large cause stone bruises on horses.
suggest using crushed lime stone then rolled to keep in place . Just like used on walking trails

Lakewood trail is ok for families but if you're into longer more challenging hikes the better trail is across Fairfield. It's a longer trek. If you go east you will have to back track as this is primarily a bike trail. You have an option of following the Millenium trail either west or north. The northern route goes under Rt. 176 via tunnel and circles Ray's Farm preserve, about a 4 mile walk. Any direction is great, lots of water bird sightings, coyote, deer, etc. in the north and eastern sections.

Please note dogs are allowed on the preserve trails as long as they are leashed. If your dog is running loose you will be ticketed.

Well, just found out today that you can't walk your dog on a leash on these trails. I've been doing it for 14 years and never had a problem but today I got in trouble! So don't bring your dogs! Ugh, now where am I going to walk every day?!

I love Lakewood trails! If you don't know the trails very well, it's quite easy to get lost, but I take my horses on the trails almost every day! There are a couple ponds/small lakes that I take the horses swimming in as well! There are always tons and tons of deer to see and it's the most beautiful in the fall! Lots of up and down hill trails. Makes for a great workout for your horse, and people!
