Trail is decent but nothing notably spectacular about it. Dirt and rock surfaces with moderate amount of canopy. Didn't see any wildlife but also didn't venture very far on the trail. Worthy of your time but nothing spectacular.

Really nice trails with some benches that have lake views. It’s fairly easy and I could see this place getting lots of visitors.

Great for trail running! Wide paths that are covered with mulch. Usually pretty quiet.

Easy walk with wildlife to observe along the way. Trails are wide and well-maintained.

Beautiful hiking trip! Got turned around in the mountain bike trails. Lots of hills, mosquitoes, and spiders. Bring bug repellent and carry a stick for knocking down spider webs along the path. No directional signage on the trails. Great workout on the hills. Definitely worth the visit!

Trails were very tight and not marked well. Also, don't forget your bug spray! We were eaten by the mosquitoes.

Really nice trail so close to town. Manicured paths most have fresh mulch on them.

Easy afternoon quick hike. Very cool tree that is as old as the constitution. A couple small bridges and lake view! I have it four stars because it is close to where I live and a fun little jaunt. Plan to go in the fall when the trees change.

Great for a relaxing walk...even with kids. Love the view of the lake...peaceful.

Not challenging but perfect if you are just looking for a nice couple hours outdoors!!!

It was nice, mostly shaded, almost completely flat, and wide enough in most places that two people could walk side-by-side. I did run into some poison ivy growing in the trail. I wish the trail had been marked, or that there had been a map displayed somewhere at least, but I couldn't find one. Not too exciting, but not a bad place to spend an afternoon wandering.

The trash left out there is really disgraceful. If you PACK it in PACK it out! Your mother is not out here cleaning up after you.

Great! Slightly muddy in some spots. I would not classify the trails as difficult. No steep inclines that I encountered at least. I explored 3 of the trails in less than an hour. I would have stayed longer but it was getting dark.

I like the long walks easy hikes out here but not full of nature like I expected. But it doesn't stop me from coming back yearly. Spring / fall this place is beautiful lots of memories with my daughter .

Carpenter Park is nothing fancy but for central Illinois hiking it's not bad. Some trails down to the Sangamon River bluffs are even kind of hilly. This time I hiked west across the tracks into the Gurgen Nature Preserve which also has some trails. It's not listed but is directly west of Carpenter Park. I wouldn't hike Riverside. It's more for driving through and stopping to fish.
