Officially dedicated in 1989, the 26-mile Rock Island Trail is the first railway conversion completed by the Illinois Department of Natural Resources. Stretching from Alta, in Peoria County, to Toulon, in Stark County, the park offers many natural and architectural attractions in a tree-canopied corridor that is only 50 to 100 feet wide. Open from dawn to dusk. Accessibility: This firm gravel, asphalt, cement, and wooden bridge trail is estimated to typically be at least 5 feet wide. The slope is estimated to range from flat to steep. The estimated steep sections are located at about the 4.9 and 6.5 mile mark. There are at least 2 designated handicapped-accessible spaces with access aisles at the paved lot at Donovan Park, marked here with a waypoint.Show more
