Close and convenient. Multiple course options

This is my "go-to" trail as its only 30 minutes from my door, but also because it is a gorgeous place, especially in summer and fall with the prairie flowers blooming and trees changing. Nice elevation changes compared to other trails in the area. There is a one mile loop that I love to start on start on from the parking lot on the right which links up to more loops in the other direction. There is so much variety in how you can hike through the loops. I never get tired of the trails here.

Longboarding is great!! Watch for small pebbles and sticks. Come here all the time, some bikers think they own the path though so beware of the path queens . . . .

The scenery is cool but all pavement trails. More a race bike trail than anything else. I have enjoyed it.

I enjoy hiking here. I’ve had an issue with some creeps so, I reported to a park officer and now I go during higher usage times.

Nice trail. Most of the path is paved, but there are some small sections of limestone or gravel. The area at bliss woods has vault toilets.

Definitely an easy trail. This is where I'll take friends and family that cannot handle a long or moderate hike. scenery is beautiful. Small space jam- packed with nature.

Small little easy walk. Safe nice bathrooms good parking. Walks well marked and wide. Minimal mud.

Honestly, haven’t been there in a long time. But have always enjoyed Messengers Woods. Spent many a summer there at Girl Scout camp as a kid, and family picnics. In the 70s it was a teen hangout, at least for a while. Fast forward 10 years, took my kids hiking here. Another 10/15 years, and I hiked here with my hiking buddy. Fond memories.

This trail is EASY, no where near moderate. That being said, it provides a more interesting and peaceful atmosphere to get in a 3 mike walk than doing it in my nearby neighborhood. Early morning walks, before it gets busy, are quiet and relaxing. The waterfall is pretty!

Very hilly in Veterans Acres and Sterns Woods. Has some thick wooded areas.

This is a nice park with quite a few branches off the main trail to add to your mileage.

Love this trail

First, this is a horse trail. Watch where you step! Also be aware and give them a wide berth. If you’re good with that, this is a fun short hike.

Several larger ponds and lots of woods make this a scenic hike. Tons of wildlife here and if you walk back into the woods a little, sit down on a log, and be still, you’ll be rewarded with an abundance of animal activity.

I wouldn’t come here after rain as it would quite muddy. It opens early, so if you like a sunrise hike, this is a great place. Don’t leave anything of value in your car. Parking is secluded and not great and signs warn of keeping your valuables with you. That said, I wouldn’t avoid this place due to safety. It’s really nice!

Great place to fish. Clean lakes and a great museum

I love all the dirt trails.

Not much to look at but a great dog park!

Great trail for kids and pets. Flat paved trails near the river and moderate dirt trails up to the bird sanctuary. Bird sanctuary is worth the trip. Lots to explore!

Most of the forested area was designated as an Illinois Nature Preserve. Extensive restoration efforts have been made here to eradicate non-native shrubs from woodland tracts.

Very small park in a neighborhood. It’s a nice little park if you live near by, not really worth driving to.

too cold.nice swans.too many geese.

Very nice 3.3 mile walk/hike. Trail starts and ends with pavement for 0.5 miles. Rest of the trail is dirt/gravel. Just over a mile of the trail winds around the eastern side of Mallard Lake. A few nice places to rest or take pictures. Def will be adding this trail to my local hikes.

Great trails and all gravel which was nice; however, I went after snow melted and it rained a couple days before and Salt Creek has flooded on some of the trail. Makes for a muddy hike, but not too terrible! Very active on a Monday with families with scrollers and a couple runners. The Mill was closed due to the time of year but hope to come back during the summer months to check it out.

Fun trails

A little muddy, but always a good trail hike

I live only 3 miles away from this place, but hike there 2-5 times a week depending on the season. I never get tired of this spot. It is so inspiring! Great for kids as well.

Nice hike trail with wide & narrow paths, creek, footbridge. Some elevation. There is area that has several cairns (stacked stones). Best to wear Trex on boots when snows on the ground because had lots of ice too. Walking stick was handy.

Nice trail. There was 5 inches of fresh snow when we went the other day and we saw alot of animals tracks. Went early so very few human footprints were in the snow yet.
