I love this trail but would rate easy, not moderate.

Great trail but large portions are submerged right now due to flooded river.

Accessible from the Des Plaines River Trail, Independence Grove is a marvelous year round destination. It has all you could ask for. Great paved and unpaved trails, fishing, boating, beach and food stand. I’ve even been to weddings here. Bike here from the trail, relax while you’re here, and continue on your way. A treasure not to be missed.

Beautiful all year round!

Amazing scenery and good
Place for fishing and running too! Love the geese!

Easy running. Great scenery.

smaller dog excerise park but offers water, path, and open area.

Took the high trail and it was well maintained, paved and my little one could be pushed in his car all the way around! Great spot!

Dogs seem to love it and owners are all very respectful of the trail.

Good trail for young kids to get used to hiking. I've seen deer there with my sone a couple times around dusk.

It's a really nice trail with kids and dogs. Some of the trail tend to get flooded and even washed out in the spring if it's real wet or there was a lot of snow. The mosquitoes can be pretty bad if it does flood. Otherwise, it's a good hike. I've done it many times and only really had an issue with the mosquitoes one year.

Quiet walk on Saturday afternoon. The only bummer was having to walk to light to cross over and then retrace back to trail

One of my favorite Lake County Forest Preserves! Lots of trails and love hiking along the river, where I frequently see deer and beavers. So cool to see the deer swim in the river. Love the different nature smells along the river with the wildflowers and trees. After heavy rains, the river trail can get quite muddy and even close at times due to flooding much of the entire river bank, but there are plenty of other trails to hike here. Bring and use bug spray, if hiking in the more wooded trails, as they are frequently buggy.

Nice easy walk in the woods!

Really nice! $10 parking on weekends if you do not live in lake county but worth it. Also great prices on boat rentals.

Fantastic, really the best! Right along side the DesPlaines River Trail. Note: SKATING/BLADING....it doesn't get any better than this beautiful Lake County jewel of a forest preserve park, they come from miles around to skate the INCREDIBLE wide asphalt paths! Best I've ever see for skating except maybe Chicago's lake front park trails.

Very nice hiking trail around the lake

The dogs absolutely love it. There's water to play in and a field to run in. The trails are also very beautiful and well maintained.

Very nice family park!

Great trail. Been riding it for 20 plus years. Indirectly connects to the north shore bike path in libertyville and the Kenosha bike path off of Russell road at the north end

I enjoy biking on this wide trail. For running, I prefer single track and more hills.

Starting at Old School Rd.in Libertyville and ending at Old Half Day Rd., have breakfast or lunch depending when you start at Egg Harbor in Lincolnshire. Then take the trek back to Old School. Can be busy depending on the day. Of course, weekends are busy with runner, bikers and hikers. Still beautiful hike among the forest, wildflowers, ferns, and deer sightings. During spring, the river may be too high and block access under Route 60 / Townline Rd. If your adventurous you can carry bike across the water or scurry over rocks close under the overpass. Level gravel surface, some slight downhill, nothing a beginner couldn't handle. Have ridden my bike and that is as much fun as hiking. Easy rider!

Rode about half of this trail and will be back to complete. Very nice, mostly unpaved

We did an awesome 8 mile family ride here today and enjoyed the scenery a lot. Little hilly but when you are pulling a bunch of kids that is more difficult. We will definitely be going back.

Okay for biking or running but not a very interesting hike.

great trail for pleasure and having a great time
