I plan on doing a section hike of the AT in about 18 months. I would like to do the River to River all the way through to prepare. It's close to where I live. I wouldn't mind others tagging along.

Great trail. One of my new favorites around. Went right after it snowed. With a good set of crampons we had no issue hiking her. I would certainly come back here to hike again or come back with my mountain bike. Only issue with this trail is markings are hard to follow at some points. Also the sound of gun shots so close while you’re trying to enjoy the woods can be a little unnerving.

Pushed myself and hiked the entirety in 6 days. Waking up on a misty morning in Panther's Den with no one else around was the highlight. Hiked it in late March, so the weather was perfect and I enjoyed and nice cigar before heading down to the Mississippi. I'd definitely do it again, but there are many more trails to hike.

Do not bring big dogs unless you plan on going the long way around. It was near impossible lifting my 90lb. dog up some very steep cliffs. Also this map is not as accurate for making your way down to the falls. Follow the trail markers.

We love the beauty of this park with the tall trees and pretty lake.

An overlooked gem. This trail offers some spectacular views and opportunities to explore off the trail.

Very muddy!

The trail is very peaceful and enjoyable. Be ready to get muddy if it’s been raining.

Some great views but the trail is not well maintained. Easily get lost. I took my dog with me and ended up removing at least a dozen of ticks.

great trail....our dog loved it!!

Scenic trails along the river. Nice up and down trails in the pine trees

We did this and the yellow trail (they connect) for a total of 16 miles. Good up and downs and pretty scenery. I didn't realize that a place like this existed near Chicago. Wasn't too busy since it was December but a few mountain bikers who all were very courteous. We are training for Patagonia and will be back to this trail. Pretty well marked but yo udo have to pay attention in a few areas

Worked here for three months and saw a different critter or new plant almost daily. Turtles, jack in the pulpit, lizards galore...the list goes on! Check it out but be wary there are lots of ticks in summertime.

So beautiful, a few tricky moments but that might just be because the water level was high while I was there. I had to cross two biggish creeks by just walking through the water but my hiking boots kept my feet dry. Gorgeous, lots of mushroom variety and there are a few patches of coniferous forest that make for magical transitions.

Beautiful hike with awesome rock formations. We hiked this trail on a rainy day and the water sheds off the trail well. The trail is easy unless you want to venture into the rock formations which provide ample opportunity for climbing.

Excellent bluffage and unique rock formations for miles! Multiple nice waterfalls (all wet weather).

Nice hike! Beautiful area. We saw tons of tracks in the snow. The kids had fun trying to identify them. There is a little bit of construction going on, so you need to make a detour on one of the trails.

A lovely winter hike! The trail petered out when I got to the beach, but that was as far as I had planned to go, so I didn't explore how hard it would be to find again. The trail was easy to see on the way out, but I did get off-trail for a while by accident on the way back (it wasn't too hard to find again, though). From what the other reviews say about the ticks, I think I'll keep this one on my winter list.

Nice hike through the Forest Preserve. Trail is well-marked. Users are considerate. Watching people train on the Swallowtail Steps is seriously inspiring.

great trail, all users are pretty considerate, has nice ups and downs

From what I can see on the map here, it definitely doesn't follow the trail markers. Mainly after Goreville to the Mississippi. Im sure there is a more accurate map somewhere else to be found.

great trail. beautiful views of the falls from above and down below.

We walked about a mile south from Schiller woods South picnic Grove. The woods are nice but the other reviews are accurate in that you never get away from the traffic noise of the roads nearby. Additionally part of the trail was next to fenced off areas for the golf course and the cemetery which was also less than ideal.

Probably a nicer hike if you know where to go.

This is a okay trail. The trail is right next to La Grange Road. The trail is mostly flat with gravel. You have to cross two roads.

Hiked November 2018. Great trail if you like winding, woodsy, unpaved trails with rolling hills. Trails were marked but lots of intersecting trails so you can choose your own adventure which adds to the fun. Says trail is 10.1 miles but that’s if you are able to hike every path - many run side by side each other. We ended up with a 4-mile hike. I’d definitely do this trail again!

This was nice hike that I enjoyed. Good amount of hills which I liked. Went during the weekday and not that many people on the trail. Also the trail is well marked so you shouldn’t have a problem following it. Go out and enjoy this trail.

Fun trail. Just like many trails in southern Illinois, unique views, cool waterfalls and a good trail to enjoy. Hope to camp here one day.

Enjoyed the trail, well marked and easy for anyone to do all 8 miles or turnaround at a point that meets their level.

Beautiful trail!! It is hard to figure out how to get down to the waterfall. Go LEFT when you are on top of the waterfall. There are rocks that you climb down right after the wooden bridge. There is another spot of rocks to climb down right before the open field that will allow a longer hike. The waterfall was one of the best I’ve seen in Illinois thus far.

Nice easy hike. Does take you to a awesome overlook. Has a small cave , big rock formations. You need to follow the blue blazes and sometimes it’s hard to know which way to go. Use your AllTrails recorder to help you stay on the right path. Saw a couple putting up their tent to camp which would be fun!
