I only rate this as a moderate hike because of the distance. It is a very easy hike. The western side is the best part of the hike. I would hike counterclockwise to save the best for last. several backpack camps all with fire rings and tables. trail is easy to follow if you use their map.

Hiked the smaller loop today, beautiful wooded areas. Not bad for our first time out. Maybe next time we will follow th map!

Great trails and all gravel which was nice; however, I went after snow melted and it rained a couple days before and Salt Creek has flooded on some of the trail. Makes for a muddy hike, but not too terrible! Very active on a Monday with families with scrollers and a couple runners. The Mill was closed due to the time of year but hope to come back during the summer months to check it out.

I live only 3 miles away from this place, but hike there 2-5 times a week depending on the season. I never get tired of this spot. It is so inspiring! Great for kids as well.

I find this trail very easy and empty! It’s best for a walk, but I could see a runner going along the dips on the crushed limestone.

peaceful walk and nicely maintained trail but in the winter there isn't much to look at besides mcmansions.

nice for as close to town as it is, easy to get to and not a bad hike unless the ground is soggy

Amazing scenery and good
Place for fishing and running too! Love the geese!

Nice area to unwind and enjoy nature. The trail is maintained but very slippery in winter. Nothing complicated or technical skills needed, just a good pair of hiking boots and some water.

Surrounded by houses. Trails muddy and full of dog poop.

A great hike for a beautiful winter day. Trails go through both open mildly hilly woodlands and flatter prairie-ish areas. Trails nicely groomed for cross-country skiing.

I have hiked sections of this trail multiple times, and this is the first time I did the whole loop. Great trail.

Quiet, peaceful and an amazing trail to walk, run or bike. Great bird watching as well.

Have been hiking this for decades. Glad it has been added to All Trails. Part of the excellent Macon County Conservation District network of trails. This trail gives a great mix of prairie, river, and hardwood forest hiking. Stop at the Rock Springs Visitor's Center for central Illinois nature displays and the bird watching window.

Walked with brother Jim. Great walk. Ducks geese. Chilly it’s winter ! Lots of dog walkers today.

Great walking trail

I went on a hike here with my boyfriend. Very romantic. Gorgeous view by the cabin over looking the lake.

It was bit overgrown in places but it was a beautiful trail.

very busy trail at times ...

Well maintained and groomed gravel trails. Beautiful trees, flowers, birds, deer, and other critters abound!

This is a nice rolling trail, lightly traveled. It's about 90% crushed gravel with a little asphalt stretch. I did the Night Heron loop first followed by the Riverbend loop. I did all the little spur trails for fun and got in a very pleasant hour of running. You don't need trail running shoes for this run, road shoes will be fine.

Nice, quiet and fairly easy

Awesome little park, well kept, pretty views and little adventures. Me and my Aussie enjoy walking it all the time. We went geocaching and also found some cute painted rocks (Lake Michigan Rocks!) so keep an eye out, this park is a adventure.

The park itself is typical of what you will see in lake county... very well kept. Bathroom is clean. Rated it lower because there's not much shade, not as much to look at and a huge amount of people that don't pick up their dog poop.

Very nice for an easy hike, lots of bridges and great views of the river. So far I've only done the outer 3.5 miles. Definitely need bug spray for the more grassy areas.
