Wow such an amazing and great hike! Been thinking about it all day since we completed it. The first part is paved and then once you get to the deck, take the stairs down. You go through amazing stone steps and narrow parts between tall tall rocks. So cool. So serene. At the junction, head right along the cliffs to complete the trail loop. SO COOL! Shady!

Went for the first time with my mom and it was an easy walk with a lot of shade on the paths and not too crowded. We went on a sunny Saturday morning. Took us 45 minutes from the trail head off of Sheridan Rd to complete the full loop.

Good trail for getting in a quick hike with views of a small lake when you don’t have a lot of time. The trail is a loop which connects in a few places in the middle so it’s good to have the map handy to avoid turning back early or heading back out on accident (or on purpose).

I don’t give five star reviews very often! This trail was great! We went at about eight AM, and it wasn’t too hot and there weren’t too many bugs. The views of the cliff and the area are great. The trail was well worn and easy to follow. As the other commenters have said, there is an incline to this trail, but it was not too difficult. As with any trail, wear your tick spray, and you should be fine.

Running

Very nice trail. Trail is marked and clear save for one spot. Deer run trail ( per the all trail map) takes a very hard to see off trail while the main trail goes on. Got a little lost. Added a mile. Didn’t mind

This was a fantastic trail hike. It was shaded most of the way. Butterfly’s were bountiful and the bird watching was some of the best I have seen in my area. I saw multiple blue birds, an owl, a buzzard. The trail was low in traffic and tidy. I can’t wIt to go again.

Even in the middle of the day. There’s enough shade to make it very enjoyable. Lots of birds, bees, and butterflies. Really nice

Well-paved, clean and not overly crowded. Partially shaded through the woods. I ALMOST stepped on a frog - oops!

Love the Watershed Nature Center and its loop trail. Parking lot nice, flat, and super-close to entrance. Along trail, plenty of “niche/nook” places to gather, rest, sit, and observe. Cool lookout towers, one in the forested/wooded area and another more situated in the open expanse of the wetlands. A cool little spit of land exists between the upper and lower wetland lagoons that you can hike all the way across. The birding here is fabulous, as is listening to the frogs and insects. Sunsets are spectacular here.

We hiked from the main entrance to the East Camp. It took us about 5 in a half hours and some of the elevation changes were tough on the legs, but we were carrying 35+ pound bags. There were some nice river views and shaded valleys. A great first hike-in camping trip! Be sure to bring water or a filter. We’re still not sure where any filling stations were.

Definitely an easy and flat trail - from the short distance I covered today. Some cool scenery including an old farm shed and a lot of animal tracks visible on the trail. East munchkinland trail features a pretty creek. I enjoyed the wizard of oz named trails.

Great quick trail in mostly (70%) shaded area. Plus closer to the lake means breeze and less humidity. Bathrooms are open but a little ripe from all the heat this week.

Nice trail. Well marked though we managed to get off once making our hike shorter than intended. Good wildlife sightings: deer and their fawns, herons, kingfisher, tree toads, wildflowers. One branch recently downed across path: a little difficult getting over and under but doable. Mostly shady throughout the well maintained trail. Will do it again!

I did not do the whole Salt Lick loop. I took the left side of salt lick up to the scenic views, followed a different trail north a bit, then came back down a different trail. Ended up being right at 3 miles total. Got some beautiful views from on top of the ridge and great views of the ridge from below on the way back. Great elevation change until you head down the ridge, and then it flattened out. Trail was well marked and easy to follow. Pay attention to signage at the trail head showing the three different trails in the area. You could easily make several different loops if you wanted to. Parking lot had maybe 5 cars in it at 9:30 am, and I saw 4 groups on the trail.

Trail for the 1rst half was a normal trail but the second part takes you through a field and then to a very thin trail that could be challenging to some, I went after it rained but wear big spray and expect muddy shoes! Great trail 2nd half was private and no one was on it

You find a beautiful spot and want to take a picture, but there is garbage everywhere. You get to another spot for a photo, more garbage. Illinois River Trail is one massive garbage dump. It might be semi-controlled by removing vending machines at the visitors center. It is crowded and noisy.
