Nice morning ride with a short single-track diversion.

Start on the south side and work your way up! The skyline from the south is and always will be a better view and it's great to have it as your "guide to halfway" focal point through the first half of the trail. Note that the trail from Ohio to North is closed and beaches are not currently accessible. Also, wear sunscreen! You are walking in direct sunlight for almost the entirety of the trail. For a city hike, it sure is spectacular!

Gravel path on a large part of the trail, good for jogging, hiking, biking, but I would not skate on gravel. There are some paved spots but not as smooth as the lakefront trail. Very good view of Lake Michigan and sail boats from the harbor as well as along the path.

This is one the nicest urban trails you'll find in the world. It's one of the highlights of Chicago. I only wish it was longer.

Ping Tom Memorial Park is absolutely a hidden gem. I’ve been to this park numerous times and it is getting each time I visit it. They are continually expanding the park with new ideas which is why I always end back there. The paths are nicely maintained though there are occasional goose waste laying around. There are a lot of spots that are photo worthy and I’ve seen wedding photos taken here. Picnics are also pretty popular along the river as there are willow trees that provide ample shade. There is a water taxi that stops by here which can take you up to Goose Island or Michigan Ave (20 min walk to Navy Pier). Overall, Ping Tom Memorial Park is a marvelous place for a short leisure walk or a family picnic.

It is remarkable that this pretty piece of nature is plopped down in the middle of an industrial area, without it feeling industrial - mostly. By the way, the main artery to the fork is well maintained, but after that the trail often disappears. I never did find the north-south leg on the west side.

Didn’t have that great of a time. Lots of mosquitos, lost track of the trail a handful of times, very muddy stretches. Lightly trafficked, though.

Due to Covid-19 some entrances are closed. - Trail is washed out due to rain. Made up our own trail. - Lots of deer in the morning. -Beautiful park even tho the trails are washed out. Maybe we will try again later in summer. - Dogs okay on leash.

A beautiful urban lakefront path!

Speed hiked on the west (grassy) side of Lake Shore Drive (not the concrete/beach side), between 67th Jeffrey (Jackson Park) and 47th Street (Hyde Park), which covers part of the Bobolink Meadow Trail. This side is less traveled, with relatively no foot paths alongside the Drive. 70% of my workout was on grass and not on any trail. Total mileage was 6.6 mi @ 15:25/mi pace on flat terrain. It was a clear, sunny day. This side gives an all-encompassing, fuller perspective of lakefront beaches, parking, Jackson Park harbors and lagoons, golf courses, driving range, exercise park for dogs, tennis courts, and the museum — not noticed in detail when driving in either direction. All Jackson Park attractions are accessible by foot within a 1.5-mile radius after parking. Beyond Jackson Park (north of 57th Street, ending at 47th Street) is a detailed view of local lodging and businesses along the Drive — this is the lakefront side of Hyde Park. Lodging is available less than a mile from the museum and Jackson Park. Hyde Park has it’s own attractions on the lakefront, and further inland, all within walking distance from lodging. This turned out to be an appreciable speed hike in a way that I had not expected. It was a great outing. If only there were foot trails it would be near perfect (4 out of 5 stars). No photos.

Very tranquil and rustic trail. Especially good south of Irving Park

Main trail nice and dry, side trails still a little muddy and some dead ends, coming back after a few warm and dry days.
