Start on the south side and work your way up! The skyline from the south is and always will be a better view and it's great to have it as your "guide to halfway" focal point through the first half of the trail. Note that the trail from Ohio to North is closed and beaches are not currently accessible. Also, wear sunscreen! You are walking in direct sunlight for almost the entirety of the trail. For a city hike, it sure is spectacular!

This is one the nicest urban trails you'll find in the world. It's one of the highlights of Chicago. I only wish it was longer.

Ping Tom Memorial Park is absolutely a hidden gem. I’ve been to this park numerous times and it is getting each time I visit it. They are continually expanding the park with new ideas which is why I always end back there. The paths are nicely maintained though there are occasional goose waste laying around. There are a lot of spots that are photo worthy and I’ve seen wedding photos taken here. Picnics are also pretty popular along the river as there are willow trees that provide ample shade. There is a water taxi that stops by here which can take you up to Goose Island or Michigan Ave (20 min walk to Navy Pier). Overall, Ping Tom Memorial Park is a marvelous place for a short leisure walk or a family picnic.

I was so proud of myself for doing this entire walk! I started where All Trails says the finish is (the south shore end). I’m glad I started there because it’s a sketchy neighborhood and am glad I didn’t end up there at night. I took the redline to the Metra to get to the start. A guy followed me for a couple blocks and there was no one else around. But then I lost him and found the start of the trail and everything went better from there. It is a beautiful and long walk. There gorgeous views of Chicago along the way... There are plenty of bathrooms along the way but they were ALL CLOSED for the season. So I had to find places to pee and then after about 4 hours I decided to go and walk up Broadway instead of the Lake path so I could duck into a Starbucks if I needed to along with the way... I do recommend doing it if you have a free day!!

It's a great trail I've used many times, but it can be quite busy and traffic noise is more noticeable than I like.

urban trail....packed with tourists but well lit for evening walk. Note distance is one way...great round trip.

Short trail, lovely viewings.

Lovely park. We saw 3 deer and countless butterflies. In the middle of the city. Who knew?

This is urban hiking - use the stairs and ramps on the Riverwalk to train for more traditional hiking. Dogs allowed, open until 10pm and lots of interesting sights on the river. Also, if you’re looking for lunch, a snack or dinner, there’s plenty of places to choose from along the street level.

Keeps getting better with new landscaping and additions. Good way to loop the city from the west to the east and back.

Great place for a stroll in Chinatown. Fishing is available and kayaks can be rented

Peaceful walk/hike in the middle of northern Chicago...even has a lake for fishing

Pretty walk through the city and down to the pier.
