Cave In Rock State Park is the site of a natural cave on the northern shore of the Ohio River. In normal weather there is a short and easy (smooth and level) trail that leads along the shore to the mouth of the cave but, during high water, I am told that the trail and cave floods. As a result, while the mouth of the cave appears bone dry, the interior can be a slippery mud pit. I recommend wearing boots since much of the cave floor is wet clay. The cave is short and would be a fun place for children to explore without the possibility of getting lost. And if you enjoy photography, try to bring a camera where you can adjust the aperture to take photos both in the darker areas toward the back of the cave and in the lighter areas up front.
