Perfect trail for my family with young ones. New to biking together so it was a good starter. Beautiful views and easy packed trail. Highly recommend. Can get busy in really nice days but I found it spacious enough to move around.

Dirt/grass trail with quiet forests, open meadows, and singing birds.

Beautiful day out so it was BUSY! Great gravel to walk on and little grass trails throughout that you can explore. Huge open field and pavilions you can picnic on once everything opens up after the stay at home order is lifted. We will be back here for sure! FYI bathrooms are still closed.

An easy, low-trafficked unpaved trail that goes through a prairie and forest. There are educational signs detailing the history and specific flora/fauna in the area. Portions of the trail are muddy, and the muddier areas have planks you can walk on. The last portion follows a train track that leads to an overlook of the lake, which contains a heron rookery. Overall an enjoyable hike. View the complete hike-through: https://youtu.be/tq0Fs8vn2oM Difficulty: 2/5 Traffic: 2/5 View: 3/5 Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/jtopgi

Last time I visit McHenry County Forest Preserves was 5 years ago during summer. First time here. Short but nice loops especially in the forest on horse trial. That one has more rocky surfaces with slightly elevation changes.

I have been already to 85% of all forest preserves that have trails in Lake County. First time here, I was surprised to find two beautiful groves of pines. Link to Citizens Park with short trails.

While Crabtree was closed the Old Stover Trailhead was open and good to go! There are some nice wetland areas and a pretty birch tree grove. Lots of awesome birds and spring peeper frogs.

Access to the trail was CLOSED April 19, 2020.

Nice trail half of the trail is in the woods the other half in the prairie. It was nice and dry why we were there.

Great trail for some 60 somethins... passin people n stuff...nice shortie. About 5.5-6 if you head both west, then East. Not too much elevation change and a fairly wide path. Plenty of room for everyone. Not paved tho, so if it’s early in the year (like now), expect a couple wet spots. Not bad tho. Plenty of people out today when we get a 65 degree day in March. Parking lot was full! Nice!!

A ridiculous "habitat restoration" set of trails filled with caustic gravel leeching poison into the surrounding area. Water cannot dissipate into the earth naturally. It is flooded and muddy to your ankles in many, places further eroding trails with deep ruts that natural earth material was meant to protect. The ridiculous lie of signs to stay on trails to protect the environment to appear "green" was erased the second man made material was introduced.

Parked at 23998 Kelsey road. At 2.3 miles into my recording this is off trail. It goes up the hill to the Polly Smith Douglas monument. In Winter there was no bushwacking because it was all cut short.

Beautiful set of trails with seriously abundant wildflowers. Really enjoyable.

Went here with a large meetup group. Supports walking 3 abreast, did not see any bicyclists. Dogs allowed. Very scenic.

Wonderful views!

I liked this trail and will come again. Definitely had some pretty muddy parts and parts of the trail were under water, so we had to cut the hike a little short.

Very easy walk

I liked it a lot

Beautiful trails, very clean. Yes there are muddy patches but it's called a nature trail for a reason. lol. I will definitely be back!

Most of the forested area was designated as an Illinois Nature Preserve. Extensive restoration efforts have been made here to eradicate non-native shrubs from woodland tracts.

Nice for an easy walk, cool bridge crossing the marsh. There's a park at the far end which has a nice clean bathroom and more paths to extend your walk a little.
