Always a fun first hike when we head out west, but I swear that it gets a little higher every time! A great warmup before heading up to Stanley.

pleasant little loop with lovely views

Hiked yesterday (Labor Day) with my husband, father (73 yo) and French Bulldog and we had a great time. Wasn’t crowded at all. Trail was super well maintained as always, and offers superb views of Baldy. Lots of shade on first half, with the second half/descent mostly exposed, so bring sunscreen and wear a hat. Love this fun little hike.

A good entry level hike, for those that don’t mind 1/3 of it on paved path. Good to run.

I see complaints here of dog poop. There is a poop bag dispenser near the trailhead at the end of Fairway Rd but it was empty. Bring your own bags. Hey Park Service! Don’t you know it’s not enough to install a poop bag dispenser? You also have to KEEP STOCKING IT! Forever!

We love loop hikes.. so went up Long Gulch and down Pioneer trail. It was just really steep the last mile before the cabin (after last river crossing ). Was very glad not to be going down that although that mile before cabin was aerobically challenging for me. Which way you do the loop depends if you prefer to save your knees and go down more gently (which is up Long Gulch and down Pioneer) or prefer not as aerobically challenging (which would be other way). Views everywhere were magnificent but best views were at the cabin. Still some wildflowers around. Really not many bugs but did it on cooler, breezy day which probably helped. The descent down Pioneer trail was rather gradual and we were back to car before we knew it. Epic, gorgeous hike and highly recommend it!!!!! FYI Our Gaia GPS measured 8.8 miles and about 3000 feet as Alltrails states. Took us 5 hrs 40 minutes total time.

Great steady climb with so many switchbacks, it’s easier than it sounds. There are some steep exposed parts (not my fave). But the views at the summit are worth it. Took us 3 hrs

Easy hike with lots of beautiful wildflowers and lovely views once you get away from the roads. In July there was hardly anyone on the trail.

Very pretty, especially for being so close to a residential area. Went in the heat of the afternoon and it was stuffy and hot all the way up (decent shade, but air was thick with humidity). Views at the top are quaint but spectacular! Perfect for a quick day hike after hours of computer work (what I did). Definitely recommend!

Proctor to prospect entrance

Great Hike. The wildflowers were unbelievable ... but so were the black flies. They were brutal... making both blood and profanities flow freely. I did the hike clockwise, but I think counterclockwise would be the better option. It took me over 5 1/2 hours to complete, but I take a ton of photos.

I’m told locals hike this trail when they can’t get out for a proper trail hike. Much of this trail is now developed with McMansions. Also a large section of the last half is “hiking” parallel to a road...

Great hike. Went up Gulch side to cabin. Wildflowers were incredible. Quick trip down after a bite to eat at cabin. Fun day!

Nice moderate trail with a mountaintop of blooming lupine! Do the loop counterclockwise to stress your heart more than your knees.

nice hike, not a lot of elevation. exposed to sun. loop trail return ends on the bike path.

My favorite so far! We opted to stay right, and tackled the steep uphill trek. not going to lie, it was tough!- still adjusting to the altitude changes. BUT- once we reached the peak it was SPECTACULAR- Lots of wildflowers blooming and amazing views of Sun Valley!

My favorite hike so far. We did all 3.7 miles. Amazing views and wonderful path. We had a blast.

Somewhat strenuous hike uphill, especially if you go to the right at the fork instead of taking the switchbacks, but well worth the effort for the amazing views and gorgeous fields of wildflowers at the top. This is a beautiful hike if you’re in the Sun Valley area!

A lot of bang for the buck on this one. Highly recommend going clockwise up long gulch and down Pioneer. Some snow to cross but not too hard to find the trail. Views from the cabin are amazing.

We did Carol’s trail, a shorter version around the mountain. About 1.5 miles with amazing views of the resort and the mountain. Very enjoyable.

We did this trail clockwise on 5/19/19, meaning we started on the Long Gulch side. It was beautiful until the snow made it difficult to find the trail. We struggled for a long time through the snow periodically locating a small portion of the trail. Finding our way only because of this app. Fortunately we spotted some people up on a ridge who had ventured past the cabin to see if they could do the return trip the way we came up. We climbed up the snow to them and they helped us find the cabin. They wisely decided not to continue in the direction we had come.

It was a beautiful day with a light breeze making it a nice easy hike with our dog. We actually did the lower loop - Carol's Trail, 1.9miles. View were really spectacular!
