Hiked this on 5/30/2020. Snow started about half a mile from the lake and was quite deep. We had boots and made it but it was sketchy in several areas.

Fun hike, as someone already said, there were footprints in the snow, but those were created by us. When we got there, everything was still snowed over. We traded the leader because they were the one who had to deal with the occasional spot where they would sink up to their waist. Leading wasn't a ton of fun, but walking in the footprints was much easier. Beautiful view from the top though which made it worth it!

Easy trail with moderate elevation gain up to the lakes- I was able to trail run it fairly easily. There’s still quite a bit of snow once you hit the first lake- I was alone so I didn’t try to post hole to the other lakes. Pretty trail with good views of redfish. First lake was pretty, but not the prettiest alpine lake I’ve been to- once the snow melts I look forward to exploring the other lakes in the area.

Nice trail with an easy grade; follows the creek at the beginning and the lake at the end was a beautiful! Minimal mud at the end; no snow.

This hike was pretty sweet. If you hike the left side of Hell’s Roaring Lake, you have to hike back country without a trail to reach the Finger of Fate. There are a bunch of streams to cross that way also. If you hike the right side of Hell Roaring Lake there is a pretty well established trail leading to Finger of Fate. Snow still covers the ground at the higher lake.

Was a fun May hike. Trail got a little snowy and muddy near the two first lakes but it a gradual climb with great views of redfish to the south and the sawtooth still the north! Will come back in late summer

Great hike!. Not if trying to use the shorter trail utilizing NF road 315 you do need a high clearance vehicle. Other than all that it was a great hike and easy enough for just about anyone.

Hiked 5/24/2020. No surprise the lake is still completely frozen. At about mile 3.8 the trail is hard to follow and begins a challenging scramble with lots of loose rocks.

A great trek up to the lake. Quite a bit of snow towards the top ... it was a little difficult to keep track of the trail. The views made it worth it.

Fun hike! I did it 5/23/20 and it was snowy from about halfway to the lake up to the top. The boulder field had footprints in the snow all the way to the lake which was nice. The bottom was a little muddy but nothing too bad! It was all fairly easy up until the last scramble up the scree to the top.

great trail, even in later may, snow covered last 1/3 mile but easy to traverse with just hiking shoes, beautiful views from the icy lakes

I went on it for my first backpacking trip. There was no steep inclines and relatively short, so a great trail for my first time! Most have the snow has melted on the trail except for on the far side of the lake. Side note - if bringing a dog be careful if you let them near the creek for the first few miles.

May 13th - May 14th 2020 Great trail, the first half is pretty dry but in the last 2 miles before the lake there was snow over the trail and it was very muddy. Well worth the view though

AMAZING TRAIL! I had a blast. It’s dog friendly. There is a sign that posts certain times of the year when dogs have to be on leash. I believe it’s during summer months dogs have to be on leash, otherwise they can be off leash. Great views, lots of trails. There was a river in the forest, still a little bit of snow. They had just burned trees there, so there were quite a handful of trees on the trail head that you had to climb under, over, or walk around - it didn’t bother us much, but could bother someone who is looking to have an easy hike. We saw lots of fishes in little Red Fish Lake and a couple fisherman fishing out there. We also saw 3 beautiful eagles and a few hawks. Such an amazing scenic hike into the wild. Would highly recommend if you love real raw adventures fully engulfed in nature.

Still about a foot of snow 0.5 mile in. Nah. Hope to come back as it was very quiet in the park still.

Early September 2019 The trail was well maintained and it was easy going, getting there. The view of lake was a 10/10. Great spot for an easy over night trip. Would recommend for family’s with kids, new backpackers, and anyone who loves a good view.

Late June 2019 What an amazing hike! The last 2 miles are a scramble up a steep granite rock face. After crossing Upper Goat Falls there was about a foot of snow till the top. Would definitely recommend wearing hiking shoes. By far my favorite hike in the Sawtooths.
