A moderate, but at times challenging, 12 mile loop that follow Graham Creek Trail #33, Coal Creek Trail #44, and connector trail #18. 2 miles of the loop is along the road following the Coeur d'Alene River, which is usually pretty busy. Or skip the road portion altogether if you have a shuttle. Graham Creek trail is a gentle ascent into a lush, ceder filled draw. There are numerous creek and tributary crossings, so be prepared for some possible water obstacles depending on the time of year. A couple of miles up Graham Creek, the connector trail splits off, and that's where the climb really begins, another mile or so down the trail. The canyon narrows and quickly climbs up and eventually away from the creek to subalpine forest with bear-grass and huckleberries abound. At the 6 mile mark you'll find Coal Creek trail and begin your descent into the canyon. A few more miles and you'll be next to Coal Creek complete with numerous waterfalls, rock formations, ferns, and blankets of moss cascading down the draw to the starting point.Show more
