Loved this trail!! Gorgeous views! Saw a robin’s nest with eggs in it! So cool to see that! One of my favorite hikes in the valley!

Good trail, mostly covered in snow and ice. Lake is frozen, very pretty views.

Very easy to moderate trail - pine trees and streams and nice vistas from top

This was a lovely hike, though I wouldn't classify it as 'easy'. There is a good amount of climbing, loose rocks, and a lot of wet areas to navigate. But, there was a surprising lack of deadfall as compared to other wilderness area hikes we've done which was a nice change! We didn't make it all the way to the end of the hike, but the views we did see were amazing.

Really enjoyed it! Good variety, nice views even though weather was poor. Well marked and maintained.

Hike was okay, but because of the burn, was a little sad. Lake must be well stocked, as we could see several trout from the shore.

Easy to do hike not hard but is pretty in its own way. The area was burned from a forest fire so it’s important to keep hiking it for the next generation to enjoy the area.

As written and mapped, it's not a very interesting or rewarding track as far as trails in the Sawtooths go...decent views of the surrounding peaks and a very pleasant creek on a mostly flat walk with a few downed logs. If you're willing to continue up to Leah's Lake, it goes from an easy walk to a moderately tough class 2 scramble - solid rock with good handholds but it gains 900' in a little over half a mile. You can find the goat path if you cross the creek to the left at about 3.3 miles and look for rocks people have placed on logs to mark the way through the forest. The lake is gorgeous and takes the hike from eh to spectacular though! And if you're really ambitious, once you reach Leah's Lake you can look for the goat path along the south shore (stay as low as you can to avoid getting cliffed out) and make your way cross-country up to Logjam Lake and a few other ponds. Long day but beautiful!

my favorite

We took the Gondola and Christmas chairlift to the top of Bald mountain. Then hiked down 2 miles to the Roundhouse restaurant, had wonderful lunch then took the Gondola down. Awesome hike and awesome views.

It was recommended to me to start the loop at the Fox Creek Trailhead (better parking options - it’s about a mile south of the Chocolate trailhead) and go in a counterclockwise direction. I only complete about 1/3 of the way around and returned the same way. I’m a bit out of shape due to a knee injury earlier in the summer, so this was my first hike in a couple of months. I say that because it was very manageable for me. I stopped about 3/4 of a mile before the highest elevation, so take that into consideration. The aspens were gorgeous, and although the fall colors are not yet here and the summer wildflower colors are gone, the shades of green and yellow were wonderful. Definitely a great hike and I hope to be back.

Awesome trail and a beautiful view. Well traveled and mostly a gradual incline. A few areas where is gets a little steep, but definitely an easier trail.

For Labor Day weekend 2019 we backpacked the Alpine Creek Trail to Leah's Lake. The first four miles of the hike I'd rate as easy to moderate. However, the last mile is pretty much straight up on a trail that is hardly a trail. This short section gains 760' of elevation and requires rock scrambling over mostly loose footing. Be careful...especially if you're carrying a heavy pack. Leah's Lake is absolutely stunning! Crystal clear, bluish-green water with a mountain backdrop. Couldn't ask for a more beautiful place to spend two nights.

Beautiful hike to a beautiful lake, some steep uphills but it is definitely worth it.

DO NOT TAKE THIS TRAIL. It is impassable after just a few 100 yards. There is a heavy rock slide that is dangerous to try and cross. We tried going down to the creek and getting across but again, totally impassable. The climb down is not clear and there is brush, thorns and lots of areas to break an ankle. This needs to be cleared on taken off the trail map before someone gets seriously hurt - nothing moderate about it - dangerous unless you are an extreme hiker that wants to blaze your own trail.

The whole hike is beautiful. Especially the destination. Plan to take your time. There is so much to see and you'll want to spend some time at the lake soaking in the beautiful view and waterfalls even swim after the solid incline up. Towards the end of the hike at the top there are some places where I would say it more difficult than moderate. Beautiful views I'd love to see again. The last 5 miles in your vehicle to the trail head can be stressful with oncoming traffic. Narrow and not always a place to pull off road.
