HikingGreat!

Beautiful! We loved it. Definitely not a beginner’s hike. I usually do moderate hikes and this was the first I’ve done this year that was rated as difficult... it certainly was challenging, but I was fine. Just bring lots of water and take plenty of breaks. The views at the top are worth it, and the cabin was very cool.

Great hike. Great reward. Great trail. But... be aware it is fairly steep and relentless. After a short little warmup you climb for the balance of the trip out. It's beautiful, and the trail is generally even and pretty smooth, but it's a long hard workout for the average Joe (or Josephine). We made it to the cabin in a bit over two hours. The return was an hour twenty or so. There is no water for dogs after the first mile, and much of it is pretty exposed weather-wise. We did it on a cool day, so no problem. The vista from the cabin is awesome.

Great hike! One of hardest this season. Waaaay incline and the decline hard on the toes. Loved the views and diverse terrain. Excellent for dogs and picnic at top.

The hike from TH to Sundance Lake (5 miles) is a distinct path with access to water most of the way. *Note* There are plenty of camping spots on the way to the lake (mile 0.1, 3, 4, and 5) which is a good option since the parking area at the TH was packed full of campers. From Sundance Lake there are cairns guiding you up the saddle between Old Hyndman and Hyndman Peak. Expect the final 1.5 mile ascent to take between 2-3 hours. It is a tough climb but absolutely worth it! (There were a few people we saw that turned around because it was too challenging) The peak has a register with 2 peak flags...oh yeah, and spectacular views! I descended by heading "straight down" which cut ½ mile off the return trip. There's even a patch of green with flowing water.

Super fun hike. Lots of switchbacks. Some new trees down from a recent windstorm. One of my favorite hikes this year.

trail was good, hiked into Sundance Lake, got there in the dark and camped. I started hiking about 515 am, followed the path as far as I could see got to the rocks and just started climbing up, made it up there just in time for an amazing sunrise! I came back down the face towards the other smaller lake and it got sketchy a few times, very steep.

If you plan on staying the night, make sure you bring plenty of water- there’s no place to refill. The view from the cabin is gorgeous, especially just before sunrise.

A good most of the day hike. About 11hrs from the trail head to the peak and back. About 1.5hrs of breaks and peak time in that. 2hrs from the saddle to the peak, and about 1.5hrs down, taking it easy.

Beautiful hike with amazing views. Relatively steep with a non stop climb but worth it. Bring water as only about half is shaded.

There's a Hyndman Peak flag in the register box at the peak and the N is falling off. We taped it but I'm sure it won't last so if a kind hike would bring up some glue or needle & thread I'm sure that would be appreciated by all that follow! :) Trail Report: Although the trail officially ends in the basin, between carins, heard paths and applying some logic it's very manageable to find a route to the top. Absolutely stunning and the group thoroughly enjoyed camping at the final pond in the basin before climbing the peak in the morning to take in the beauty and not rush.

The trail disappeared after Sundance lake :) Hiking stops after the lake as well and turns into a fun, loooong and worth it scramble and climb . I am a novice climber so it was quite sketchy and tiring but doable if you take your time and exercise caution . The views on a clear day ..... so darn worth it .

Great, scenic hike with a nice mix of shaded areas and open pastures. We went out and back on this trail so can't speak to the loop that incorporates Long gulch. The hike is actually a little less than 8 miles, so not that long. However, it is a nice steady uphill climb which makes for great exercise. The trails are not rocky so the footing is excellent. The cabin at the top is a great place to relax for lunch or other sustenance.

We went up the Pioneer Cabin Trail (you can choose to come back down this one or via Long Gulch, they end at the same place). The first two miles are pretty well shaded, especially if you leave early- which I recommend. First two miles are just okay and they’re switchbacks in a forest. Once things open up towards the top it gets good. Great views, stunning wildflowers, and a few straight aways to take a break from the steady incline. We came back down Pioneer Cabin Trail as I’m recently recovered from a broken ankle and was a tad nervous about the footing on Long Gulch. This hike is definitely worth doing.
