it was fun, two ways up a longer easier path or straight up hard path. Been a while since I've hiked next time will be faster.

Slow easy grind up the switchbacks, technical decent down the rocky spine. Great views of Hailey and surrounds. Dip your feet in the Big Wood River after.

HikingGreat!

Started off on the switchbacks but took a wrong turn at the graffiti wall and ended up scaling straight up the mountain. Had to stop a few times and the path straight up isn’t really marked, but solid footing the entire time. Top of the mountain was amazing, beautiful views. Found the switchbacks in the way down and it was a breeze heading back. Tons of fun and totally doable, even for a few beginner hikers like us.

Hiked this loop many times and agree with the last reviewer- not sure where 9.6 miles is coming from, the full loop is close to 11.5 or 12. If you do this in late summer, make sure you bring plenty of water and sunscreen- the way up can be a scorcher!

Great trail - we deviated to Big Basin and we’re not disappointed with the wildflowers and views.

My wife, six year old, and 9 year old did this hike. We went straight up to the top - the kiddos struggled with it. We took the switchbacks on the way down - MUCH easier. If you have younger kids, I recommend the switchbacks up and down. Beautiful views, though!

I started out just a bit too late so it was pretty hot when I started my hike. Because it was getting hot and I didn’t have my hiking polls I decided not to go too far up the the start of the steeper ascent. There are a lot of gravel-ish type rocks on the ascent and I just kept slipping and sliding. Just didn’t feel safe and I was super tired from the heat. Best keep it safe and try the summit another day. Still lots of great views of the mountains along the way. Passed some people on horses and mules...not a bad idea! Haha

AllTrails said 9.6, I clicked 11.5... don’t bring dogs unless you know they can handle it, have booties for the hot sand, and just as much water as the people - if not more.

Pretty hike with enough elevation to get your legs burning but not overwhelming. Excellent trail in the spring as the snow is melting at higher elevations.

Pretty little stroll amongst the trees and along the creek. Great jaunt for those who don't really hike but may be a little boring for people who hike.

Nice walk up to the top, very steep if you go straight up, but switchbacks make it easy if you take them instead. Dry and hot with no shade, but view on top is beautiful

Nice trail, great workout. Kid friendly: my two year old handled it pretty easily. Down was a different story for him but slow and steady he did fine. Beautiful view, had fun watching planes take off.

This trail has no shade. Don’t do on a warm summer day. It’s great for hard exercise. Go straight up and your calves will be hollering. Loose rock but surprisingly stable. Switchbacks make an easier trail

The directions from AllTrails takes you straight to the parking lot of the trailhead. It can be confusing because the road cuts through private property, but keep following the road and you’ll end up in the right place! Warning that the road to get there is a bit bumpy/rocky and there are parts where you have to drive off road to get around a fallen tree or a hole. Overall, my watch clocked this hike at 9.2 miles roundtrip. The majority of the hike is fairly easy (some gradual uphill). However, the last mile is very steep (you climb the last ~1000ft in the last mile) so be prepared for some exercise at the end! Ended up taking ya 6hrs total with a stop for lunch at the top. The trail was easy to follow the entire time and was well maintained. The views of the creek and the mountains are incredible the whole time! There were still a lot of wildflowers out when we went. Although the last part is steep, seeing the view from the top and exploring the pioneer cabin definitely made it worth it. Overall an awesome hike!

I came here with my 10 year yellow lab and a friend’s daschund and we all had a great time. Yes, there were frequent stops to break off the trail for oncoming bikers, but that’s the name of the game when sharing trails. At the end of the hike, we decided to bushwhack a bit through some brush towards the creek and did some creek crossings as we slowly and patiently found our way back to a different trail and then back to the car. Total hike time was from about 11-2.

Went up the saddle and up the ridge to the summit. This route def has amazing views the whole way up. On my way down decided to just head down the face. Shaved off about 45 min on the descent. But your legs pay for it. Both up and down it’s just intense boulder hopping. Great hike.

Enjoyed the mix of tree coverage and open field. Dispersed campgrounds at end of hike where we sat by the creek for lunch before heading back. Creek at trailhead is a good spot for dogs to cool off before or after a hike.

Pretty enough once you're in the forest, but this trail is hugely popular with mountain bikers, so be prepared to step off the path every 5 mins to let the bikes go past.

The lake at the top is basically dry. The alltrails red line does not align with the actual trail when you get to the river and base of the final accent so the mileage is more like 7.4. I don’t think that it is necessarily worth it to go to the top of the hill (to the dry lake), the best views of the valley are about a quarter of the way up the final accent.
