The uphill nature of the trail make this a great way to get a good workout in and the views are amazing all the way to the top!

Very fun and simple!

Amazing hike but would rate this more on the difficult side of moderate. It’s basically all uphill with no switchbacks. We only ran into 1 small group the entire hike. The lake is beautiful and very peaceful make sure to bring a book and a hammock and spend a few hours at the top. The trail to the upper part of the lake was a bit overgrown and hard to reach and once there it really wasn’t worth the trouble.

Pro tip: once you reach the trailhead you can drive a good quarter of the mile up to a small parking area. You probably need a vehicle with a bit of clearance though.

Beautiful hike! Lake was full of fish

Beautiful and fairly easy hike. Four stars simply because I prefer trails that don't allow motorcycles on them. Bikes are ok. Views from the top were excellent. Also, nice that it is near Pocatello. Nice wildflowers and didn't see much wildlife.

Awesome little hike. Spontaneous trip on our end, we didn’t arrive here until 8pm and we were back at the car by 10:15pm. The hike at the beginning just seems like your walking to nowhere in the desert but after you turn right at the porta potty, you begin to see the river. After that you keep walking along the river, you see a beautiful waterfall and then pool or lake? and if you continue on the path it’ll loop around and you end up back at the porta potty then your car!

beautiful trail

A couple of friends and I hiked this trail in late June and it was a nice workout. Some portions were steep enough to really make you work and others, not. You’ll have a wide range of views from a river in the distance, to mountains, to evergreen trees at the peak. We had a close encounter with an elk in a beautiful meadow area; in the distance you could see another female elk with 2 calves. There’s a trailhead with parking available. It’s not a hard trail and just what the doctor ordered to “get away from it all”.

this is a great time of year to go, very vibrant, and lush. the view was amazing. and even though it rained a little it was a perfect day to hike, not too hot or cold.

Nice maintained trail. Too much snow to make it to pear lake but I will be back.

Beautiful views! Can go for a short loop or long depending on what you’re feeling. Multiple trails available. We went long and ended up going 10miles. Parking lot was packed, but we didn’t see all that many people on the trail which was nice.

Great moderate trail with a variety of scenery including mountain vistas and hiking along the river. Do it counter clockwise from the trailhead.

Incredible views along this hike. Well worth the trip! The mosquitos were a little too friendly though.

beautiful well maintained trail, and gorgeous views from the peak. windy and cool, I suggest an extra layer for the top. will definitely hike again!

My favorite trail so far. Absolutely beautiful, serene and peaceful. Even the burned trees added to the magic.

Very busy trail, particularly at weekends with dog walkers. Great views over Sun Valley and also back to Ketchum and up the Trail Creek Valley. Nice leg stretch.

Very little snow remains along ridges and summits in the area. Popular Trout lake lives up to its name! . Granite domes along the ridges have large cirques that support lakes. Lots of beetle kill in the forests. Big Fisher Lake was awesome and isolated and the summit above it offers a nice view of Pyramid and other high peaks in the region.

Beautiful day, waterfalls, lakes, good incline, shade and sun, couldnt have had a better hike today! Wondering around the lakes was worth adding the extra mileage! Mosquitos were terrible at Hazel but great campsites! This is now one of my favs!!

July - Summer

This is a nice little loop trail that has some good viewpoints of the lake.

The forest is fairly dense at first but opens up as you continue the loop. Once out of the trees it is very open and can be a bit hot depending on the time of day. If you have dogs remember to bring water for them as there isn’t any water access on the trail.

The trail itself is pretty easy, only a small elevation gain and there are a couple of benches to sit and rest on.

Parking is nice and open, but remember that this is a state park, so fees are required.

Overall not something I would go out of my way for, but if your in the area it’s worth giving it a hike.

Pretty good hike. I would recommend always having a map of the trail as it is not clearly marked. If you go clockwise per earlier review head right at the fork - it will say middle. I would recommend going counter clockwise. There is a killer Hill with all the elevation gain that we walked up in the middle of the day. That half also has the least shade. If you go counterclockwise you hit the open areas in the early part of your hike and are descending the massive hill. At the bottom veer left to stay on trail. The rest is mostly shaded in the woods with minor elevation gains. There are also creek crossing where your kids will get wet and love it. Much better the last half of the hike.

Absolutely beautiful! Rough road but as long as you’re in a 4 wheel drive you should be just fine. We had two kids with us and it was a blast. The lake was fun for the kids to swim in and cool off. We will definitely be back!

The trail to the lower lake is clear of debris and snow. Blow downs block the hike to the upper lake. Total distance to the lower lake and back is 6.75 miles and 1,077 elevation gain. The lake is beautiful.

We couldn’t even make it to the hike! The trail to get to the hike requires an ATV or off road vehicle. We parked our SUV at the point where we could no longer drive the trail (about 1.9 miles from the beginning of the trail), and tried to hike in. It was fairly steep, and so many mosquitos that were constantly attacking, even though we had on bug spray. We didn’t even make it to the trail head! (We had 4 kids with us). I’ve been told there is another way to get in, but it doesn’t show on AllTrails. Unless you have an ATV, don’t try this.

Fun hike for the family. Took my 7 yr old and 9 yr old 2 weeks ago. It was about all they could handle (uphill to the peak) but the view was worth it. Hardly any snow left.

We did this as an out and back via #122. Great views and beautiful flowers in the high meadow. The cabin is pretty neat too.
