We picked this trail because it was easy and quick. I will say that this trail is very pretty and the lake has a giant plastic bear proof trunk. Plenty of areas to pitch a tent. My only complaint was that the trail was very narrow at times with bushes taller then me and the trail got flooded on our way out. Not sure if there is a way to prevent that though. I would suggest if you are camping with a forecast of rain to bring some rain boots.

we started the hike at 9am. we ran into a lot of mosquitos on the trail. never got to the view point cause we were getting eaten up. of course, we forgot the repellent. the trail is moderate and well maintained. i would come back and be better prepared for the mosquitoes.

5 star view, 3 star trail.

Trail is dusty and rutted out in places from motorized vehicles. But you get Huckleberries along the way and a stunning view of Lake Pend Oreille at the end.

not very steep good and good for a first time hike

Good out and back trail that was well maintained.. You'll get a decent workout with the inclines/declines. Mostly shaded but there are some areas without. Rewarded with great views of the lake and surrounding mountains from peak. Saw a large elk on trail.
Took me approx. 2 hrs in and 1.5 out.
NF Road 278 aka Johnson Creek rd was well maintained but does narrow down to single car width several places as it winds up the mountain.
Didn't see anyone else on trail during my hike.
